The way I see it the Patriots will like spend between $10M-$12M on the WR position this offseason.

How should it be spent..

1. Spend most of it to retain Welker and use any remaining on end of the road WR's like we did this season?

2. Spend $7M-$9M on a Mike Wallace or Dwayne Bowe and $2M-$3M on a Danny Amendola and bringing back Edelman?

I'm torn because I feel like something is missing in this offense and how many more hits does Wes Welker have in him?

I've noticed that the Brady Welker combo doesn't respond well to physical teams that hit them in the mouth. Welker took that big shot which drew the flag and immediately dropped the next pass.

Is Brady to reliant on Welker and would taking him out of a comfort zone actually help in the long run?

But I do love WW and the combo and it has been a machine for years..

Thoughts?

i just wish the Pats and Welker could agree on something like a 3 year $24M fully guaranteed deal, or something close - maybe 3/$27. that'd probably be a hometown discount. I wonder what his market will be should he hit it.

we need the extra money to retain Talib. Our defense was completely different with him in there. We need that #1 CB position filled.

Cut the whole offense loose and get Megatron :D

Our offense is fine as is. We really, really missed gronkowski against the Ravens. he opens up the entire offense by requiring a double team on him and/or welker. with those double-covered hernandez, branch, and Vereen/Woodhead can roam over the middle of the field. our offense without gronk is tailor made for the ravens. they are able to sluff everybody in and pound our receivers over the middle. this covers up for their lack of team speed on defense

plus, gronkowski is the vertical threat we need, we dont need to search for anyone else

just a damn shame that he was injured the last 2 seasons. a healthy gronkowski and im pretty sure we wouldve won at least 1 Super Bowl. damn shame.

And that's why we have to take the necessary precautions from now on. We have Fragile people on this roster!

And the answer to this from many Patriot fans is to get rid of the toughest, most durable, most reliable, and most productive skill player they have ever had.

one of the issues, I believe is the fact that the pats would likely be able to sign someone like wallace for a lower initial cap hit simply because they'll be able to do a longer term deal. whatever they do with welker will be like 2 years, which means there's much less backloading.

the bigger question at this moment is what the pats are going to do with brady's 21M/yr cap hit for '13 and '14

there's also some wiggle room in the wilfork and mankins deals

I would not be suprised to see ghostkowski dumped for some rookie. he does nto deserve what he is making and dumping him would be a cap savings of almost 2M while the next guy would be likely making the rookie minimum

1 ) wallac and bowe are nuckle heads ....gabriel with more skill. we have repeatly seen these guys fail in NE system and with brady. Will you pay and the realize they just do not get our system or brady ?...

2) You say WV took a hit and dropped the next catch , will you cut hernandaz for getting hit and next play not catching the ball and tapping it to the defender against the 49ers

3) 619 yds after catch guy replace by edelman cannot stay on the field , amendola who is hurt is a solution

4)When you say WV is shut down you are saying he is ONLY giving you 100 plus yds
.

$2 to $3 mil for Amendola? Not likely. He's gonna get a lot more then that if he isn't franchised.

Amendola and Edelman taking over for Welker? These two can't stay on the field. Probably not even if you combined their playing time they wouldn't make a full season. They drop more passes then Welker does. Please tell me you aren't serious here.

I'd say with 20 mil in capspace we can't given anybody 12 mil a year. We need CBs, WRs and a OT.

Did you just say franchised? He has 196 catches, 1726 yds, 8.8 ypc avg and 7 touchdowns for his career... If the Rams give him $9.7M we should give Danny Woodhead $20M next year..

I would be stunned if Welker does better than 3/15m.

Answer to your question for #2 is that I am not cutting anybody including WW. I simply pointing out that WW has taken a lot of hits over his career and there is likely both physiological and physical damage to him because of that. So giving him a 3-4yrct guaranteed is concerning. If you cannot understand that than you're not looking past 2014's season.

#3 Football player suffer injuries its part of the game. Amendola could injuries could have a lot to do with Bradford's ball placement on routes or poor technique in bracing for hits on his part. Either way it could be fixable. Edelman's broke a foot that could of happen to anyone on the field.

The rest of your questions don't really dignify an answer. I asked the question of what we should do, I raised some points of things that have occurred and concerns...

Maybe you should reread my post and provide and actual response to the question of what we should do instead of looking to be a internet tough guy and being aggressive. Thanks!

I'd take Welker at 3/$15m. If he gets more than that, I hope it's elsewhere. I'd like to draft a couple of WR this year. FA priority is Vollmer and Talib, for me.

To clarify, I don't think he'll get more than that here. He may very well get more elsewhere.

There's a difference. The Rams offense was significantly better with Amendola and he has become Bradford's go to guy.

I hope other teams realize that if they pay big to sign Welker, there's a very big chance they won't get the same stats he's putting up here. He thrives in the New England offense. I genuinely hope that Wes can look past the money. $5-6 million a year is enough.

Also, we STILL NEED A DEEP THREAT GUY. Preferably 2. I'd hope for at least 1 proven guy in free agency, and one tall guy in the 2nd round of the draft. Just a couple of guys who can JUMP and COME DOWN WITH THE BALL. PLEASE!

Question...is Lloyd's 2013 $3mill option bonus guaranteed?

from Rotoworld: "3/17/12: Signed a three-year, $12 million contract. The deal included a $3 million signing bonus. Annual $100,000 workout bonuses are available throughout the contract's life. 2013: $1.9 million (+ $3 million option bonus), 2014: $2.9 million, 2015:
