I was kind of surprised that they let it go on in the rain. Dangerous with all that electrical equipment exposed to the rain.

With Prince holding that microphone, a sudden jolt could have turned him into Don King.

We were over here laughing and making jokes about prince getting electicuted. lol. Funny how someone else mentioned it.

my girlfriend and I were laughing hysterically when they threw up that sheet and showed his shadow against it. for those of you who have clean minds and missed it, it was very phallic. the loop from the prince symbol even created a (gigantic) nutsack.

I thought some of it was painful (all along the watchtower) and the rest was passable enough. maybe i just hate halftime shows so much that I could never approve.

I enjoyed the Prince presentation. A bit af a departure from the usual act he has. Loved the covers. Appreciated the new Foo Fighters (Best of you).
Chord progression was wrong on that, though. Still fun to watch.
His lead playing, however, is mediocre at best. Nice sound on the Strat, I was glad he put the Tele down.
More into showmanship than musicianship.
I know he's capable of better guitar playing when he's focused on it than he showed last night.

Good music is imortal. It doesn't matter when it was from. I haven't seen it yet but some of the stuff from Purple Rain will always be classic.

I was digging that vintage tone on the Tele. And I do completely disagree about his leads. The guy is a tasty soulful guitar player, even when he shreds you can see that it's genuine and not just a masturbatory exercise. I think he's very underrated as a guitar player. It wasn't the best sound I ever heard but I gave it a huge thumbs up realizing that it had to be pumped from his guys who were mixing it, into the stadium's PA, then into the CBS trucks to our homes. Not to mention he was playing in an open air stadium. I was expecting mud, like we got from U2, and instead I heard amazing clarity and tone from an open air venue. I think Prince's playing is what made that possible. He was sloppy, very sloppy on Purple Rain, but on the other songs, he ripped.

Any musician appreciated that performance last night. It didn't matter whether you're a fan or not. Others probably saw what they wanted to see, good or bad. Musicians understand the skill he brought to that performance.

I'll dispute you on who owns Watchtower. Sure, Dylan wrote the lyrics, but Hendrix made it his. So much so that Dylan credits Hendrix's version as the definitive version and much more often than not actually performed Hendrix's version.

Mostly in agreement with you here--I love Dylan, but this was one of his that Hendrix transformed for the better. However, Dylan's own best version, influenced by Hendrix, is with The Band on the Before the Flood album. Worth checking out.

Paul Westerberg is actually one of the more gifted guitarists around, but nobody really gives him credit for it because he insists on playing so sloppy all the time.
