he singlehandedly lost that game for them...Bears defense played very well and the hester return helped...
what was it...4 turnovers for him? or was it 3 ....plus the play he fumbled on and then tripped and fell...i like the guy but he just doesnt deserve to be starting for a team that good...i think the bears should try to find a new QB next year...thoughts? i know this isnt anything new, we'll see i guess...i was really pushin for the kid too but hes just a nervous wreck out there..

I remember thinking about comments that I have heard regarding Brady Quinn's prospects in the upcoming draft. Some people think he is overrated and may slide like Aaron Rodgers did a couple of years ago.

I don't think Quinn will fall out of the top 10 picks, but if he does fall, the Bears should be doing whatever they can do to trade up.

They cannot go into a season with Grossman as the QB if they expect to compete for a SB.

Actually, I expected the Bears to pull him and put in Griese after the INT was returned for 6, he was done at that point.

Somewhere out there while watching the game Jim Kelly is saying to himself "Man,In those 4 consecutive SB losses as Bills QB I never looked THAT bad")

Maybe our Vinny Testeverde will be available, even at 75 years old he can't be worse than Rex

Rex was horrible! The first INT was an absolute lob into double coverage! He should have been picked at least four times.

Somewhere Neil O'Donnell is smiling, no longer wearing the "Worst performance by a Quaterback in the Super Bowl" T-shirt.

I put the onus on Lovie Smith for not realizing that Grossman does not have what it takes to win a championship -- at least, not yet.

The onus is on Lovey if he had a choice on who he played as QB. Personally, as others have said, I would put in Griese for the last quarter of the season, and for the playoffs.

You wonder how many NFL QBs sat around last night thinking to themselves
that if they were behind center with the Bears' defense, special teams and that offense (Muhammed, Berian, Benson, Jones) they could have won the game or at least made it much more competitive.
This loss is clearly on Lovie. While Rex performed poorly, it's the coach's responsibility to give his team the best chnace to win. Smith clearly did not do that last night or for much of the season, despite the result.....

Rex was horrible, and Lovie should have thrown his sentiment/pride or whatever it was that motivated him, aside and put Greise in. He couldn't have been any worse. How did they manage to get this far with Rex at the helm? Defense is important but you also need an offense that can function.

The fact that the Colts conceded the short field by kicking away from Hester is telling. They absolutely knew Grossman wouldn't beat them.

Da bears offense only needed to put up 16 points for a victory last night...

One of the problems with this game was that it was ordained with a huge amount of hoopla about the two black coaches. It's almost as though neither would be taken to task on decisions for this one game, that the breakthrough, or double breakthrough was the big story. Too bad, although the Colts were going to win no matter.

Just out of curiosity-when Bledsoe was in NE, how did he do throwing those short passes, as well as the screen passes?

Here in Dallas-this was his biggest weakness.

Every time I see Rex, just can't help thinking that these 2 are alot alike.

Drew could make the throws, he just didn't like to. Of course he had twice the arm this kid has so he got away with what for him was as much stubborness as capacity. Their similarities are mostly lack of pocket presence and footspeed, capacity to read defenses quickly and correctly and make good decisions under pressure - which if you can't or won't improve on will kill your short passing game. Brady isn't a mobile QB and he's played under pressure a lot. Thing is more often than not he can slide around gracefully to maintain a pocket and simultaneously think while he's doing that. When Drew or Rex are forced to move around they disolve into desperation mode. Brady isn't immune to desperation either, but when he succombs to it it's usually because he's out of options and the situation is truly desperate, unlike Drew who creates his own scenarios believing he can then prove a point. Remove all pressure and both Drew and Rex function well enough to hang around in the league for a while. Problem is if you aspire to take your team to the next level, there will eventually be pressure you simply can't entirely counter and having one of those guys behind center when that happens will kill you.

Some guys adapt. Manning has by both putting in the work in spite of posessing a laser rocket arm... and steeling himself to control his deamons (and I think Dungy slowly convinced him of the upside if he just would). Drew couldn't or wouldn't. I'm not sure Rex has what it takes mentally or physically nor is he in the situation with Lovie that is likely to lead to his developing it. Lovie had his back all season but didn't work on his flaws and kinda threw him under the bus last night when they again surfaced on the national stage. It will be interesting to see how that dynamic plays out in 2007 because if the Bears slip badly as SB loosers tend to Lovie's job will be right back on the line.

I know players say they love playing for these player coaches. But with the exception of Dungy, who never singles anyone out individually and remains placid and unflappable even in the face of mounting criticism while apparently just as quietly working a little magic behind the scenes to adapt his players to NFL reality, they seem to be the most inclined to point the finger in failure. The third member of this little clique, Herm, is the absolute worst when it comes to defending his own stupid decisions when challenged in the media by tossing his "men" at least in the direction of the oncoming bus.

Grossman is on the path to being one of the all-time worst starting QB's in league history. He looks absolutely lost out there. A loss is one thing, but if I were a Bears fan who had to suffer through Bad Rex's performance last night, I'd be both suicidal and homicidal.

According to Lovie Smith:

"Rex is our quarterback"

Grossman should have been the MVP of the superbowl...he did more for the colts than manning did!

As much as he was loved here... Bledsoe's game against GB was right up there for poor SB QB performance..

1 Grossman
2 Collins
3 Eason
4 Jaworski
5 Kelly
6 Bledsoe

6 of the worst sb performence of all time

They tried nothing with Grossman early on and into the second half and then they tried to throw longer and he just got picked off. He is a joke of a SB QB. With any half decent QB the Bears could have beaten the Colts.

With one year of seasoning under the direction of Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner, Matt Cassel would have beaten the Indianapolis Colts.

Exactly.

I said it just as the game began, "If Grossman tries throwing anything over 10-15 yards, the Bears are in trouble."

Sure enough!

Key questions:

Why did Lovie Howell keep going back to Grossman on the dropback?

Why weren't they dumping to Desmond Clark for 5 yards and let him muscle another 3-4?

Why can't Grossman handle snaps that hit him in the hands?

Why does Grossman insist on throwing "Gino Torretta Rainbow" balls off his back foot?

Why didn't they put Griese in? Could he POSSIBLY have been any worse?

How long can Prince milk the "purple" thing?
