Philadelphia Eagles Begin Cleaning House: Jason Babin Released | Bleacher Report
Babin was widely regarded as a classic me-first player who epitomized the struggles of this year’s Eagles. He was awful against the run, which is a direct result of the Wide 9 defense but also a reflection of Babin’s obsessiveness with accumulating sacks and only sacks.
no it doesn't... learn your damn facts rookie.
Now go get me some water...
Another article mentioned that if he got 2.5 more sacks this season he would be due a 400K bonus. the above says why they cut him and the bonus probably explains the WHY NOW (2.5 is possible in a single game).
Slightly OT - but it's very interesting to see the Eagles making player personnel changes when it seems clear that Reid and co. aren't going to be around much longer.
The commonly used rationale for releasing Babin (aside from your astute observation regarding a bonus) has been that they want to see Vinny Curry play. Who is "they" in this case? Reid has the say in "football matters" and it seems clear that he knows he's out.
I'm confused by folks who want to use planning for the future as rationale as if this release occurred in a parallel universe where Andy Reid has a future with the Eagles.
"One, any time you see Andy Reid come across your caller ID, you know [laughs] it's probably not a good thing.
"But two, [laughs] all I could do was was -- almost -- I laughed. I was like [while laughing], 'Alright, coach. if that's what what you gotta do.' It was just -- I don't know -- caught me off guard."
Hopefully he's right. Then, he could chose where he wants to go and New England would be high on his list, I'm sure. (assuming we don't get him through waivers, of course).

Talked to 4 team execs about Babin last night. All expect him to clear waivers. Find that surprising, given value of pass rushers. We'll see
I'm not. 6 different teams including 2 separate stints with the Iggles.
Something is not right with this guy.

Jason Babin Laughed When Andy Reid Told Him He Was Released, Then Laughed Some More When He Shared the Story
If Babin ends up a Patriot, I will eat my hat.
Zolak did his interview with BB today. He was just talking with his co-host, and he made the point that he doesn't think it's going to happen. He called talking about it a waste of time.
Zolak said this or Belichick?
