Eagles-Cowboys doesn’t get flexed out of prime time | ProFootballTalk

God damn it. Just like in 2010 with the 4-8 John Kitna led Cowboys vs the 8-4 Eagles game wasn't flexed out.

Steelers (6-4) @ Ravens (8-2)
Bucs (6-4) @ Broncos (7-3)
Vikings (6-4) @ Packers (7-3)
Seahawks (6-4) @ Bears (7-3)

All games featuring teams who are currently in the playoffs yet we're going to have to watch the currently 5-5 Cowboys and 3-7 Eagles.

Not sure which of those 4 above would be protected, but ANY of them would be better.

NBC chooses games people will watch. Sadly that includes all NFC East divisional games, regardless of records involved.

The NBC knobslobbering of the NFC East is disgusting.

It's a business decision, not a sports decision.

Philadelphia is the nation's 4th largest television market.
Dallas is the nation's 5th largest television market.

They're looking at the size of the markets with the idea on how many viewers are likely to watch, which translates to higher ratings, which translates to higher rates that they can charge for ads.

That is somewhat offset by what is a more compelling game that would more likely draw neutral fans, but the networks are still more drawn to the biggest markets. Cowboys may or may not be battling for a playoff spot; as a division rival they also draw the number one market, New York.

Grabbing the attention of the New York market is a big deal to the networks; it not only represents the number one television market, it is larger than #3 Chicago and #4 Philadelphia combined.

Steelers-Ravens would be the best game, but that may have been protected by CBS.

By comparison here are the television market size ranks corresponding to those other teams:

Pittsburgh (23) at Baltimore (27)
Tampa Bay (14) at Denver (17)
Minnesota (15) at Green Bay (Milwaukee) (34)
Seattle (12) at Chicago (3)

Your sig pic is perfect in this case.

Remember a team can only be in prime time (NBC, NFL Network and ESPN) a maximum of 5 times and can only be on NBC a maximum of 3 during the season

Steelers/Ravens is probably CBS protected game

Bucs/Broncos can't be flexed as Denver was scheduled for 5 National games (2 Sun, 2 Mon, 1 Thur)

Vikings/Packers probably the protected game for FOX

Seahawks/Bears. NBC wants no part of that one after all that Bears hype and they crap their pants in back to back national games. Plus Seahawks/Bears scream 13-10 kind of game.

Plus NBC is also betting that Dallas will beat Washington and move to 6-5, Packers will beat the Giants who would fall to 6-5. Which would mean Dallas would be leading the division going into that game.

Maybe I am in the minority, but I'd rather watch Dallas/Philly than Seattle/Chicago.

If they thought they would get better numbers NBC would take one of the other games. They want ratings - they don't intentionally favor one team over the other.

Dallas is still a big draw, Seattle isn't and Chicago has been a team that can't win a game against a quality opponent for years now.

If it's Jets or Eagles, it's getting prime television air time.

A maximum of three teams are allowed to have 6 primetime games (see: Patriots, 2007).

I love the NFC East! It's always entertaining. At the very least, I hope Michael Vick plays the whole game.

I'm looking the schedule and I see Jets/Chargers there... that game will ABSOLUTELY be flexed
