Official Pats v. Seahawks postgame thread

I tried to bump the following from 2009, only to see that the mods had deemed it useless then. So I'm quote/pasting it instead.

Early in his career, Brady seemed to have established himself as one of the great clutch QBs of all time even when he wasn't yet special the rest of the time. Maybe that was his affinity for the kind of offense played in the 2 minute drill. Maybe it was an ability to perform against tired defenses. Maybe it was luck. Maybe it really was him zoning in under pressure. Maybe it was teammates zoning in. Maybe it was never true, and was based on misinterpretation of what we were seeing.

But in any case, it's surely not true NOW. So what happened? Is it Brady's head? Is it the play calling (Pats' and/or opponents')? Is it Brady's teammates? Or is the whole thing just an illusion?

I have no problem with Brady.....every top QB has bad games

On the other hand,This secondary is pure GARBAGE and once again worst in the league,in fact it's an embarrassment and only covered up when the offense scores tons of points

When you have two rookie secondary players out covering a speedy Rice you know there was no chance Seattle was not going to score a TD

This secondary will be responsible for just about every loss they have had and to come......

No chance on getting far this season with these flat out scrubs in the secondary......there is not one player in any game that I trust will do their job.

Our DBs have sucked ever since Magnini left. We used to be known for confusing QBs with exotic coverages, but we don't seem to be showing the same creativity anymore.

Now it's just a bunch of simple coverages that is easily beaten, even by rookie QBs who are not great at throwing the ball.

Its mainly talent. We have absolute garbage players in the secondary.

This loss reminds me of the 2004 game in miami on MNF. But that team had the killer instinct to finish teams off. This team doesnt know how to close the door . Has happened in consecutive weeks even though we escaped last week.

I choose these words carefully as i don't want them to be misconstrued as an over reaction to this one game.

This team is a good team, we do a lot of things very well and some things great. Brandon spikes had a great game today and so did Chandler Jones and Wilfork with little to no rest.

But this team will continue to frustrate us and let us down in pivotal situations because the fact remains that when a team passes the ball middle to deep, runs play action or just throws up jump balls we more often than not give up the play.

I can't count how many times over the last 2-3 years we have had offenses backed up, in trouble or in the spot we want them only to have our CBs, DB's or Safteys give up a big play to extend the drive.

I can't continue to defend this secondary because the fact remains they are the worst secondary i have seen in the league and you can have all of the good pieces you like but when you have a weakness as glaring and as exploitable as our secondary is... i just can't see how we can beat elite teams consistently. Which lets face it is how we judge our patriots team.

I don't know what the answer is but all i know is if i was an opposing coach i would Run, Run, Play action deep ball consistently against us as Russell Wilson showed put it up there and the pats will either give you a flag or give up the catch.

Yes we had our opportunities and we could have executed in x,y,z a position on offense but we all know why we lost this and most other games this year.

I am one frustrated Pats Fan today boys.

Why, specifically, does our defensive backfield suck so bad in the fourth quarter. Even when the team hangs on for a win, in the last 10 minutes of games they don't even provide minimal resistence. This was a 10 point game through 50 minutes and then they just crap the bed.

Because hardly ANY of these guys are that good. Think about it on draft day.....BB drafts Phil McCracken out of West Southern Mississippi.....and Mel Kyper is scrambling through his lists trying to find the bastid and cant come up with it. This is BB trying to out think the room....trying to be the evil genius that he is made out to be.....and he craps all over himself year after year drafting these horrible, short, poor fundamentals, "raw projects". Year after year......

Arington has the worst cover/ball skills I've ever seen. There is a reason he was a scrub special teams player on his last team.

Brady was so ******* inaccurate today, tons of balls at his target's feet or sailed it over their heads. He can't throw the deep ball to a WR in stride, he's always off.
Always is an irrational statement, TB began to struggle when it started to rain harder and the ball was wet.

What's garbage is the bandwagon fans who whine and complain and act like the sky is falling in every time something goes wrong..

Why don't they just leave--ugh you have to wade through pages of garbage posts- every game day here ---there must be some winning team somewhere they can cheer for.

It used to be that when Brady took to the field with under 2 mins to go, and needing a score, I almost considered it automatic that he'd get a score. These days, I actually expect to not see him direct a game winning drive.

It used to be that when a BB coached defense took to the field I expected them to make clutch play after clutch play to seal wins for this team. These days, I actually expect to see the defense crumble and lose the game for us.

Agreed on both parts.

I expect the Celtics to crumble in the 4th quarter of 7th games as well.

Is Duane Starks available?

Where art thou Scrubendary?

Ihedigbo, Nate Jones, Antwan Molden

We chose a bad week to lose. Every other team in the AFC East won.

brady can't play freaking defense!!! DID YOU NOT HEAR GISSELE?

call it what you want but its on the dline just as much as the secondary. How many times did wilson have time for deep balls, including play action which takes time to set up.

Look at seattle's dine when the game was on the line, pressure all 4 downs including a sack and forcing brady to throw early on 4th to seal the game. Where's our dline on these drives when they gotta throw?

Ya chandler jones got 2 sacks but what about other guys, and when it mattered most?

In all three losses, there were chances to close it out. It is frustrating that they are unable to close out these games : both O and D deserve blame for not ending it.

Yet, many of the elements you need are in place. Which further frustrates.

Horrible game plan/playcalling, especially in the 2nd half.

I live in the Pacific Northwest and it is a horrid day. Step outside for 1 minute and you are absolutely drenched. The rain was coming down in buckets in the 2nd half and that ball had to be waterlogged and heavy. Didn't hurt the 'Hawks 'cause all Wilson had to do was loft up some rainbows and let our garbage secondary give up big plays, but this wasn't the type of weather to throw the ball 60x. Pats should of went more with the run and screens; the screens were working all day. There was no way Brady would have a good second half in that weather throwing it every down.

On drafting DB's i agree, he has a horrible record when it comes to drafting that position.

If that is the case, then the coaches are absolutely failing them by not helping them by being more creative in their coverage schemes.

1 for 6 in RZ 17% efficiency.
