Another good sign:

•RB Brandon Bolden is getting time on special teams units. That’s pointing him to a roster sport down the line.

Brandon Bolden. Well if he looks the way he does at training camp the same way he does in the highlight videos, it's no wonder he is making an impression. Kid appears to have a nice burst combined with good size for the position.

His grandfather was a 10 year nfl wr, so he has bloodlines. But apparently he has some red flags in his past which is probably why he went undrafted.

Appears to be confident at his precombine interview.

Not ready to annoint him yet, but it sounds like he has made a case to make the roster. Looking forward to seeing him in preseason.

The guy is a freak athlete, a gadget back. Teams learnt how to defend him last season. Not a feature back given his size.

I think Woodhead could stick...but 4 RBs and a FB could be a little too heavy though. They only carried four backs under McD in 2007 through the duration including Evans at FB...they did the same thing in 2008. We know McD likes the FB to feature in his offence so one is almost certainly a lock.

Bolden is turning heads and Vereen by all accounts is turning heads also and could do Woodhead's job to equal or even a higher standard to what he achieved in 2010.

Guess what, that makes Woody expendable!

So Woodhead loses a spot to a guy who wasn't drafted and hasn't played one down in the NFL??

Don't get me wrong I'm on the Bolden Bandwagon as well but I don't see Bolden stealing any of the RB's roster spots. Either he takes a FB's spot or they keep 5 Backs including the FB.

So here's a question for you all- If you had to choose one, Bolden or Larsen??

On Tuesday at camp Bolden broke out a nice run and some idiot started cheering Woodhead.

Dude hasn't even played in a preseason game yet slow down. Undrafted FA love here is kinda ridiculous sometimes. I really hope he plays well though.

Soon we'll hear Arian Foster comparisons....which would be nice...

How about you follow the game the way you follow it, and those of us who actually get excited about Potential and Possibilities follow it our way, without your unsolicited, uninvited, and utterly useless advice??
th_coffee.gif

You have every right to get excited. But labeling the guy a fantasy sleeper without any evidence against actual in-game competition instead of a defense that he knows like the back of his hand by now is jumping the gun a little bit, IMO. I like Bolden. I like what I've heard and I like his potential, being the avid SEC fan that I am. But I want to actually see him beat out any one of the three that I named first before pumping this guy up as the next clock killin' Corey Dillon for our offense.

You miss the point, my friend.

And you also paint me with the same brush as the OP, which is...kinda ridiculous.

Perhaps it was unintentional, but the affect is the same: Anybody reading your grossly misleading post might now think I'm pimping Bolden as a Fantasy Sleeper and The Next Corey Dillion, which is hilarious.

I was merely addressing the other guy's rude attempt to tell the OP how to feel.

Y'all should be able to refute a point ~ and as emphatically as you wish to ~ without doing that.

That's all I'm saying. Peace.

My bad dude, I'm too lazy to learn the names of newcomers so i just call all of them Woodhead.

I don't follow the NCAA at all, so the first time I see any players is when they line up and play in NFL uniforms.

Having said that, of the two RBs the Pats drafted last year, Vereen and Ridley, I thought that Vereen was the thumper. Am I wrong?

In a word, yes.

The spin then was that in the proverbial "thunder and lightning" combo, Vereen would be the lightning.

The funny thing is some posters on this board act as if the comments regarding Bolden being a fantasy sleeper, and him pushing Ridley for the lead back role was made up by myself. When I clearly stated those were the sentiments of Mike Lombardi, not me.

I simply wanted to pass along the info. Because it's not very often you hear such rave reviews from a source as close to the team as Lombardi regarding an udfa.

Anyone who takes issue with the comments I posted should direct their arrogance to Lombardi.

It happens when you think NFL talent level can be discerned from one season of college stats. ;)

They are all from the same graduating class, and its the junior season, the most important as so many juniors declare for the draft.

You don't think they are equal in talent level? If Bolden declared his junior year he's probably drafted in between Vereen and Ridley or even above them depending on a better combine being healthy. Subsequently, if Vereen or Ridley were injured and had a poor senior year they wouldve been late rounders or undrafted as well like Bolden.

You do realize that the Dillon quote was intentional hyperbole, right?

Yep.

But perhaps you should keep your hyperbole to your OWN opinions.

That way, I don't have to explain to others that I don't think what you SAY I think...EH?? ;)

I'm adding some quotes that may help the situation.

NFL Network's Michael Lombardi issued a "fantasy sleeper alert" for Patriots undrafted rookie RB Brandon Bolden on Inside Training Camp Live."From what I'm being told, I think he has an opportunity to be a special running back much like BenJarvus Green-Ellis," said Lombardi, "And I have a feeling he's pushing Stevan Ridley."

Lombardi's connection to Bill Belichick leads to plenty of inside scoop, but he also tends to relentlessly hype Patriots backup types. Bolden did garner early-camp praise from beat writers, though we've seen nothing to suggest he's putting heat on Ridley for the lead back role. Aug 7 - 2:39 PM

Brandon Bolden - New England Patriots - 2012 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com

Undrafted rookie Brandon Bolden "appears to have a real chance to earn a roster spot," according to ESPN Boston.Bolden has impressed beat writers on a daily basis with his size, speed, body control and power combination, arguably outplaying Shane Vereen early in the camp.

A speedier version of BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Bolden clocked a 4.48 forty at nearly 5'11" and 220 pounds during Ole Miss' Pro Day. He'll have to master Josh McDaniels' offense before carving out a weekly role in the committee attack. Jul 31 - 3:06 AM
