Kyle Arrington apparently has an early lead in the PatsFans DB Scapegoat primary.

Ras-I Dowling, Devin McCourty, Patrick Chung and several other candidates still have a chance of very good chance of winning this coveted title though, as we are still very early in the race. Recent recipients of this annual award include McCourty, Brandon Meriweather, James Sanders, Deltha O'Neal and Ellis Hobbs. Stay tuned to this website as we cover this event to its inevitable conclusion following the final game of the 2012 season.

In one poster's mind, anyway. This guy must be the #1 hater of the K.Arrington hater club.

We're all well aware of Arrington's weaknesses, just like most other CB's in the NFL.

As Sciz correctly points out, he's best used for covering closer to the line of scrimmage, and the further out he has to go, the lessened his odds become of being able to make the play. Just another reason to hope that he can finally be switched to full time star/slot CB.

In his defense:

1. He's relatively cheap at 1.85 million per year. Some would even consider that a steal when compared to the other starting CB's around the league, especially for his production.

2. He had 7 INT's last yr, which tied for the league lead. He has risen to become an average to above average CB in some areas.

3. He is best utilized in the slot, which was likely the thinking that went along with the drafting of Dowling last yr, as Dowling started outside on day one. It was due to Dowling's injury that moved Arrington over to regular/outside CB.

4. He can/should be one of the gunners on ST, where he has excelled in the past and started his career. Having ST value is obviously quite important.

5. He allowed a 54% QB completion rate on 100 targets. The top 10 CB's in the league averaged between 41% #1 (Revis) and 50% #10(Carr), so coming in at 54% allowed is not that shabby. It should very well put him in the top 20-25 CB's in that area.

6. He was able to hold Cruz to only 4 catches and 25 yds in the SB, which was pretty impressive in itself. He was certainly not the weak link in our secondary when it came to the most recent game.

7. He has proved himself quite durable, and has played in every single game in the past 2 years including playoffs. That would put him at 36/36 games played in the past 2 yrs since taking over here in the CB core from special teams.

8. Even if he doesn't start, he offers great value for the depth chart, can start in a pinch (obviously), and provides value on ST's and in the salary cap department. There's absolutely no reason to not want Arrington here in our CB depth chart. There is a problem when expecting him to be our #1 CB.

I have to admit that I'm surprised by the giant amount of hate and butthurt that Mystery Pats Fan has against Arrington. Almost every post I've read of him has some kind of attack to Kyle, that fixation can't be good.

About Molden, well, goodbye and good luck. I sincerely hope he can make the final roster in New York. (Because then he wouldn't be avaible if New England is in a desperate need of a DB.)

Edit:

In his defense:

This, this, and a thousand times this. I wouldn't take away a comma of this post.

You're entitled to your opinions. We're entitled to write these opinions off as being uninformed.

What, exactly, will you and others say when what I have said about Arrington comes to pass as actually happening? Should be interesting, IMO.

GOD, just think how embarrassing that would be.

Won't take that long. Should be concluded prior to opening game.

You may want to reel in your excessive radicalism on some level, just my opinion.

Everyone has a player or two who they don't care for, or that they feel is somewhat overrated, this is perfectly normal. Mine is Jerod Mayo..I think he's overrated by many here on this forum. The comparisons to Ray Lewis crack me up, to be completely honest.

BUT...I also realize there are a TON of things that Mayo does properly, the upside that he has, and the leader that he's become. He's still an incredible talent, even if my personal opinion is that he's overrated by many here. In other words, I don't spend my entire time here bashing him over and over; as a matter of fact, I hardly ever bring him up at all.

I think you have some halfway decent points on some matters, and am just passing the info on that you probably don't wanna be known as "that guy."

Try and have more of a reasonable opinion, giving credit where it's due. No one will ever be able to agree on all opinions, and there are times when posters likely hate me for a minute too, but I try and keep those moments to a minimum...again...you don't wanna be known as "that guy."

I salute Kyle Arrington! :rocker: :rocker: :rocker:

From undrafted collegiate free agent to the New England Patriots most consistent cornerback in 2011.

You have to admire Kyle Arrington's hard work and dedication to the New England Patriots organization.

Guys like Arrington who overachieve, offer great contribution on ST, are versatile, understand the system, keep their mouth shut, do their jobs, and are cheap are what allow us to keep highly paid guys like Brady, Welker, Wilfork etc.

It's a shame that both McCourty and Dowling weren't able to contribute too much, and that Arrington had to be forced into a #1 role, because he doesn't belong there. He certainly belongs on the CB core in some manner though.

Wes Welker was not highly paid in comparison to the other "well known" wide receivers in the NFL.

Don't forget Leigh Bodden who was paid a heck of lot more than Kyle Arrington.

Well he is now, one way or another.

You can add Mankins and Mayo to the list too.

Right. I forget about Bodden b/c he didn't play at all the year before, but most pegged him to start alongside McCourty.

This is great news for the Patriots and Patriots fans. Not only does that stiff not return to NE, but he goes to the team that's been in the way of the past two Patriots SB titles. Now, should they meet again this season, the Patriots will know precisely who to attack.

It's true we know his limitations and strong points as a cornerback.

Well, his limitations, anyway...

Not until he signs the franchise tender.

He's obviously either going to sign the 10 million dollar tender this year, or sign a longer term deal that pays him handsomely.

He's all but admitted that he's playing here this yr---"looking forward to getting back out there."

The only question is whether he'll show up for voluntary strength/conditioning OTA's, and I really don't think anyone gives a damn one way or another.

This like the 3rd thread he has hated on Arrington for no reason. He(Mystery Pats fan) is either a troll or an idiot.
