Dude, I would LOVE to see what THIS guy brings to the game!! :rocker:

XE Hayden Smith ~ 6.6/265/475

Emerging rugby star Hayden Smith hoping to make jump to NFL | National Football Post

This is REAL: He's already started working out for teams, and NOBODY has more credibility or ability to develop him than the New England FootBall PATRIOTS!!

What position this guy might play is up in the air, but at 6.6/265 and a reported 475 in the 40, as well as good grades for ball handling skills AND a BasketBall background, this guy's raw skill set SCREAMS "Flex End"!! :rocker:

The Flex End Market ~ that Rob Gronkowski's position in GridSpeak ~ is BONE DRY in the 2012 Draft: Only Late Rounder Chase Ford really does anything for me. And we BADLY need to get a back up for The Gronk!!

This guy could be PERFECT!! :rocker:

I know Brother Snake will LOVE this notion!!

PLUS: He's Australian...Which in MY book is Double Word Score!! :rocker:

I'd say DE or 34 OLB. Rugby players don't run routes and don't catch passes often, but they know how to get to the ball carrier and they know how to tackle.

Fine by me!!

If he could translate that talent into the NFL, he could be a BEAST of a Defensive End or Flanker!!

That depends what Rugby they played, this kid looks like he comes from Union so he probably wouldn't see the ball much.

On the other hand, there's a lot of Rugby League players who would be brilliant in the NFL, they hit, run, catch and tackle.

Sam Tomkins-Seek and Destroy - YouTube like this kid, Sam Tomkins as a returner in the NFL would be lethal, he already does it with no blockers (the 2nd highlight shows that) and he does it on a regular basis every season.

This. Think JPP, who if memory serves has not really played that many years of football, including the 2 for the Giants. It can be done, and BB has a history of such project players.

Brother Grid, you know me too well! I like him already, just wish there was some film of the guy. Yeah, TE, DE/OLB, he's a physical specimen. Apparently he hasnt been playing Rugby very long, if he can rise to that level without much of a background in it then you have someone with real talent.

I'd like to bring that Sam Tomkins guy over for a workout as well.

Would rather have Sebastien Chabal, nickname: Monster.

Plenty of YouTube on him...kinda fun.

Would immediately become every Pats fans favourite player.

Pass on the Aussie Rugby star. Sorry Wilfork75.

No problem buddy. I actually don't see him having any chance at all at making it in the NFL. Rugby just doesn't translate very well in terms of skill or athletecism, and to ask a guy to try and translate at the NFL level is almost impossible. I think if anything, its Smith's basketball background that would help him the most. But I think he is probably about 8 years too late. I think for anyone to translate from another sport in another Country to the NFL, they need to do it through the collegiate system and learn the game before trying to do it at the highest level. I wish him good luck though, and I would love to see an Aussie in the NFL (not as a punter), but I think we will have to wait until next year when Jessie Williams enters the draft. He sure would look good at DE for the Pats.

I think Saban is moving him to the nose next year. Should be very interesting to see him inside, his more natural position. The Alabama LBer's make a ton of plays, but because of Cody, Deaderick, Williams, and Chapman they get a lot of room to roam free to make those type plays.

What an Atrocity.

If I'm running things, Opportunities like this never go by the boards.

Oh, well...Maybe things will implode over in New York, and we'll get a chance to pluck'm out'f the debris.

Hayden Smith is a ZERO Risk/METEORIC Upside guy ~ a physical and cerebral FREAK.

That's disappointing. We took Stephen Neal, who was just a wrestler with no football experience, and turned him into a player, why not take a shot on this beast?

I think that the Jets have gotten so desperate that they are now just stealing ideas from OTG. Given their history this sounds like a bad thing.

Toss 'em a few lemons Grid?

Kinda OT:

I don't know much about rugby, but I am really impressed/intrigued with the "haka" (if that's how it's spelled) - the pregame chanting/taunting rituals that the teams do to get hyped up and try to intimidate the other team. At least, that's what it looks like to me (I can't understand what they're saying). I think it would be neat if something like that was done in the NFL. I bet Ray Lewis would make an awesome haka leader.

Absolutely, and if you wanted to commit double homicide I bet Ray Lewis would be a great leader as well.

The haka is not so much a rugby thing as a New Zealand thing (specifically, the native Maori).

Thanks for the jinx, OTG
