N.Y. media jumps on Brady remark

Leave to breer to suggest even boston media is like this

So Breer's underlying premise is that:

Manningham's comments mocking Edelman = Brady saying he hoped he saw even more ats fans a the Super Bowl.

AND

Boston media's coverage of Mannignham's word = NY media on Brady's. (Guess I missed the part where Boston media COMPLETELY mischaracterized Mannigham's words and wrote a closing line like "Is this guy overconfident, or what?")

Is this what Jefferson Airplane meant when they wrote 'When logic and proportion, Have fallen sloppy dead..."

Well said, ESPN as usual - how shameful of Brady to suggest that he hopes that the Patriots win! How could he even say this in public! I'm sure his newly revealed desire to win this game will inspire the Giants with extra motivation they otherwise wouldn't have had. Until the pep rally, the Giants players just assumed he felt otherwise, obviously. This is clearly bulletin board material. We're done for.

Of course it's overblown and out of proportion and all he was saying was that he wants to win. Duh!

But, however he meant it he shouldn't have said it that way. It was a mistake that the mediots in NY will play all week. It's just part of the landscape now.

I disagree......if the NYC media could spin that one, they would have found a way to make saying nothing at all cause to play the disrespect card.

its monday.....they're not going to be able to run with this one for a week

If Brady said he "hopes to win", they would have said he had no confidence. They'e just trying to get their fan base worked up and make a name for themselves while selling paper/web hits...

exactly....he's been called everything from overconfident to 'fraidy cat'

let 'em keep running off their mouths........they'll tire of it and then blame coughlin in the end

Here's the latest sign of the Great New York Media Conspiracy:

My wife was just telling me she was watching The Today Show. They were doing one of their "Eat This Not That" segments — you know, healthy alternatives. It was on Super Bowl foods.

AND THEY TOLD PEOPLE TO EAT MANHATTAN CHOWDER INSTEAD OF NEW ENGLAND!!!!

Swine I tell you, conspiratorial swine.

By the way, OT, here's a nice NE clam chowder recipe I've been making for years. VERY good. And uses milk instead of cream, so it is relatively light.

NY media wants Giants as disrespected underdog,
but players have not cooperated.

Next in view, Giants react.

Giants arrive today, NY press is all hot and bothered.
Looking for reactions, this will be mentioned repeatedly.
Giants will comply.

Meanwhile, Pats will be practicing
while the Giants chatter.

These types of articles astound me with their idiocy. I mean, what do people think? That the Giants just weren't focused and motivated before? Sure it's the Super Bowl but the Giants weren't really all that motivated. Oh but now that Tom Brady said something, well now they're really gonna try!

It is not even what he said.

I watched him speak to the fans and he said the word "hopefully" before referring to a victory parade. Of course the NY mediots will jump all over this and take it way out of context like they do with all of the material they collate.

Furthermore, what was Tom supposed to say to rally the fans who came out to see the team off:

"Because the NY/National media will twist my words in an attempt to fire up our opponent, I can not stand here and get you all fired up by expressing what we collectively are going out to do next Sunday if we HOPEFULLY play to the level of our capabilities in all three phases."

What rubbish.

From another thread, my thoughts:

I agree with what you WANT it to say, but what he said was "We're going to give it our best and hopefully we have a lot more people at our party next weekend."

He didn't say "Hopefully we CAN have a lot more people here for A party next week."

Now it says what you want to hear. What I want to hear. Not what he said.

He stated it as if they are throwing a party next week and he hopes more people will show up. I'm sorry, but "hopefully" is in no way connected to victory in his sentence. Like I said, I do believe it is what he MEANT to say, but it is not what came out of his mouth.

I really don't see how you can interpret it any other way, it says what it says.

Edit: I also don't see it as him expressing disappointment in the turnout, because I think it is obvious that he meant to state he hopes they win, not he hopes more people show up once they win. But missing one word, or using one wrong word, can completely change what your sentence says, and honestly, Tom has never been the most elegant speaker, he's always stumbled around a little trying to say what he want to says. So like I said, he isn't expressing disappointment with the numbers, he just simply worded it poorly, which I'm fine with, but I'm also not surprised the NY Media is taking it at what it says. When you read it on paper it sounds awfully different than when he said it at the pep rally. You have to hear it live to understand what he meant, and I'm sure the article writer is fully expecting that NOBODY will watch the video, I'm actually surprised they added it.

From Mike Reiss:
2. Brady's remarks create N.Y. storm. Really? The New York media is taking Tom Brady's pep-rally remarks Sunday and blowing them up. "We're going down there, and we're going down there for one reason. We're going to give it our best and hopefully we have a lot more people at our party next weekend," Brady said. This dominated the coverage of the New York Daily News and New York Post, and others such as ESPNNewYork.com jumped on it as well. To which we ask, "Where's the context?" It's no wonder players often speak in cliches. File this under: Over-reaction.

I also agree with Mike Reiss, while he doesn't directly acknowledge it, Brady mispoke, but when you HEAR him as opposed to simply reading what he says, you understand the CONTEXT and what he intended to say. When you simply run the article with a transcript of his speech, it comes out far different than what was implied. And again, I am not surprised by the media picking up on this one bit.

Yes, they took it out of context, but you also heard him wrong. Brady said "We're going to give it our best and hopefully we have a lot more people at our party next weekend."
