FWIW, I think, THINK, the Pats are more than capable of beating the Chargers on sunday. In fact, I expect it. However, I've not seen this amount of reactionary vitriol in some time towards "visiting" opposing fans, nor a damning sense of gladed defensiveness. I am not used to this and I can only imagine that even the most loyal of fans have some degree of realization that our beloved Pats may, just might, lose this sunday.
So what if they do?
I'm not trying to be confrontational, nor am I making excuses. This team went 12-4, has made a great show in the play-offs thus far, and appears to be well-primed for future greatness. Winning the SB is tough. Luck and skill. For a team so historically inept, this recent rise to greatness has almost made us believe we are pre-ordained to at least defend our title, whether or not we are the defending champs this particular year. It's like the first time you get electric windows. The next time you have to actually roll down the window, you think negatively.
I've been reading our (PatsFans) interaction with Charger fans. If we do lose, we have a lot of 'splainin' to do, Lucy. It shouldn't be the case. The Chargers are no better than the Pats, but they can beat us on any day. I know talking smack is a part of a fans game, but fans have 0 weight in the game. As a former player, I can tell you than any player worth his weight never even notices whatever the hell the crowd is doing. They are invisible and don't exist within the game. They say they do only to keep good graces, as one says nice to meet you upon introduction. Nice to say, means nothing. Home field is more about comfort than the fans.
I only ask that PatsFans resort to actually personify the qualities they continually lambast actual Pats players about.
