The Patriots will be facing the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC championship game next Sunday (3 p.m. on WEEI 93.7 FM)
Pats to meet Ravens in AFC championship
Unknown who the broadcast team will be.
Anyone know what rule change allows this ?
98.5 can't be too happy about this.

I'm fairly certain the game will be on 98.5 as well. 98.5 will have the local broadcast with Gil and Gino while WEEI will broadcast the national announcers.

I believe starting with conference championships local broadcasts are limited to the local station. Other years up here in Maine there's no Gil & Geno on the network stations after the divisional round. Does WEEI already do some national NFL radio broadcasts, like plenty of other stations?

WEEI tweeted this earlier today, something about a change in Local blackout rules. Will be the Westwood One broadcast, not sure who their people are.

I have not listened to a game on the radio for a few years. So I don't know either, but I seem to recall a anti-Patriot bias with at least one of them.
Why did the rules get changed though ?

I think Marv Albert is one of them...

I seem to recall after the Pats 1st SB win, WEEI wanted to air a replay of the national broadcast but wasn't allowed.
Will this rule change allow them to do that also ?

WEEI is a sinking ship. I'd rather listen to commercials on 98.5 than flip over and hear their stale shtick.

A bit of a change with the deal though is this – if the Patriots make it to the AFC Championship and Super Bowl, WEEI will be allowed to air the national feed of those games. The NFL broadcast blackout restriction has been lifted in home markets for the conference championship games and the Super Bowl for the first time. This means that the AFC Championship and Super Bowl could potentially be aired both on 98.5 FM (with Gil and Gino) and WEEI (with Boomer Esiason and Kevin Harlan.)
