All players at Thursday practice - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

Everyone's in the house. Wondering who people think will be inactive Saturday? Besides Mallett of course.

I'm not as well versed on the whole roster as others here, but some candidates I see are S. Brown or Nate Jones, S. Ellis, Guyton, N McDonald, Polite, Vereen, Faulk. I'm not 100% convinced both Mankins and Vollmer are sure things health-wise.

Thoughts?

Roster.

If all 53 are indeed healthy and available for selection, my guess would be:

3rd QB will be Mallett
Guyton
Jones
McDonald
Polite
Vereen
Williams

That's an interesting question because all season long the inactives have predominantly been injured players and for the most part made the choices relatively easy ones.

With Mankins back I would guess that means McDonald would sit. I'll also assume Vereen does not play. It's tough to say whether or not Faulk does as well, but based on his lack of playing time I think I would be more surprised if he did play than if he didn't. Guyton is better in coverage than against the run and has been invisible down the stretch; plus with Fletcher and Spikes healthy there's not really any room for him.

Other than the players you listed what about Gerard Warren? He seems better getting a push on the pass rush than as a run stopper, so I don't see him getting playing time against Denver.

Malcolm Williams is certainly a possibility, and if BB has faith the rest of the OL is healthy then Donald Thomas might be inactive too.

I guess the news with mankins isn't too great..which would suck...but rather have him for AFC champ vs Balt than this week

I'll be a little more generic and go with:
2 OL
2 DB
1 RB
Mallett
Guyton

Sub in Faulk for Polite and I think you are right..

Is Faulk ever going to see any playing time in the playoffs?..or is he just along for the ride?

This obviously is his last season...I want to see Kevin go out with a bang and have one last BIG game where he comes out of the backfield on some screens and gets that yardage to move the chains that he had been so great at over the years.

Outside of genuinely needing him for a play, I don't think he'll get many looks. The playoffs are too serious to 'send him out with a bang' outside of say ...him being in for pass protection, not needed, slips into the flat and Brady finds him.

Yep, I agree.

I think that Polite will stay on the gameday roster and offer support as a pure FB and in blitz pickup situations. This will continue until our 2011 season is over, at least in my opinion.

My inactives would be listed as the following:

--Mallett 3rd QB

--one of Mankins/Vollmer

--Gary Guyton

--Shane Vereen

--Malcolm Williams

--One of McDonald/Jones (depending on what OL is out)

--G.Warren
