Here is some food for thought.

Through 15 weeks (and 95 kickoffs)
Gostkowski is averaging 65 YPK. And, if you look, the only reason that Gost's YPK is so low is the one game against Pittsburgh where he averaged only 42.8 YPK on 5 kicks.. Gost's avg is 66.2 without those 4 from Pitt.

The Average return allowed by the Pats is 21.6 YPR.

BTW, the YPR is good for 6th best in the league.

Gostkowski has 34 touchbacks on the year.

Prior to his injury, Gostkowski was averaging just shy of 68 (67.9) YPK.
he'd made 42 kick-offs in 8 games with an average of 24.5 YPR.

And, if you want to talk about Field Goals, Gost was 10-13 through 8 games last year.

People complaining about Gost being 26-31 (the 2nd most FG attempts he's made in his career) need to relax. 3 of the misses have been from 40+ yards.

I'm all for legitimate complaints, but complaining about a guy who is coming off a serious leg injury that directly affects his job performance is one of the things that people need to re-evaluate.

Why would anybody hate Gostkowski? Oh yeah, I forgot -- if he doesn't make every kick the fans with "high expectations" will boo him.

The bolded shouldn't matter. Different kickoff rules in place.

At first I read "Gronkowski" and was like what hater??!

I like Gostkowski. He's having a decent year. There's plenty other areas for us fans to be concerned with.

His 34 TBs are 13th in the league however, his TB percentage is only 36.2%, ranking him 26th in the league. Maybe it's more strategic due to the new kickoff rule... I would much rather have an opposing team start behind the 20 than at it. I imagine on a decent amount of these kick offs he's putting it at a reasonable return spot so our STs can get down there and make a play behind the 20.

Sorry, He seems to miss to many "easy" FGs in my opinion. Short ones get missed some times. And he shanked that 50 yard by like 25 feet to the left. My son and I often think Brady and BB should just go for it cause we think he sux.

Well he's missed 5 and 3 were over 40 yards, so he's missed two under 40, those two misses must be sticking out for you for some reason.

a few stats from patriots.com

Gostkowski has hit 113-of-134 career field goal attempts, and his 84.3 percent accuracy rate is the highest in Patriots history and sixth-best in NFL history.

He scored over 100 points in each of his first four NFL seasons (103 in 2006, 137 in 2007, 148 in 2008 and 125 in 2009).
In 2008, Gostkowski was named to his first career Pro Bowl and also earned a spot on the Associated Press All-Pro First Team.
Gostkowski set a Patriots single-season record and led the NFL with 36 successful field goals in 2008.
In 2008, Gostkowski led the NFL with 148 points, the most by a Patriots player since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger and the second highest total in team history (Gino Cappelletti, 155 in 1964).
Gostkowski connected on 90 percent of his field goal tries in 2008 (36-for-40), tying the second highest single-season field goal percentage in team history.
Gostkowski set an NFL single-season record with 74 successful PAT kicks in 2007.
Gostkowski was perfect in the 2006 playoffs, connecting on all eight of his field goals, including a game-winning, 31-yard boot with 1:10 remaining to seal the Patriots' divisional playoff victory at San Diego (1/14/07).
Gostkowski kicked the longest field goal in Patriots playoff history when he nailed a 50-yard boot at San Diego (1/14/07).
Gostkowski's 52-yard field goal vs. Chicago (11/26/06) was the longest field goal in Gillette Stadium history.

When you don't hear about the kicker, punter, LS and holder in the news, they're doing their job.

a few stats from patriots.com

Not the most neutral source one can find, me thinks.

Sports Illustrated's page says:

FG Made: 26 (10th)
FG Pct: 83.9 (17th)
Long: 50 (28th)
XP Made: 54 (3rd)

To me, Gostkowski is an average kicker, and his middle-of-the-road field goal percentage supports that. I don't get a surge of confidence when he strides onto the field, nor do I get an anxiety attack. I hope that doesn't make me a "hater" in your book. There are times when his play p*sses me off, but that's true for everyone on the team (ok, well, Wilfork never pisses me off! :) ).

Yes, if you take one season when he's clearly not fully recovered from a major surgery, you can make him look worse than he is. However, Gost is #6 among active FG kickers in percentage, and #7 in NFL history. He's also #3 in PAT% among actives, and #5 in NFL history.

Stephen Gostkowski NFL Football Statistics - Pro-Football-Reference.com

Sorry, but that's not average or middle-of-the-road.

And, before someone gets to the "but on long kicks..." stuff, here is Gost compared to the rest of the 6 on 40+ yarders:

Gost: 71%
Gould: 71%
Hartley: 92% (but on only 13 attempts, and he plays in NOR)
Graham: 74%
Bironas: 77%
Kaeding: 71%

So his numbers fit in with that top group, even from a distance.

I like Gostkowski, but if I tell you I'm confident every time he steps in to attempt a 40-49 yard kick, I'd be lying.

I like him, also, but I don't always trust him. Whether or not his stats warrant that lack of trust, I'm not sure. But that's just the feeling I have and, prior to this year, I did trust him.

Wow. I didn't realize this was even a concern. He's one of the best in the league and should get even better with a lot of years ahead of him. Every week there are kicking lowlights from the previous weekend and I don't think there has ever been one featuring Gostkowski. This isn't an "area of concern".

I have no complaints about him. No one, not even the former kicker who shall not be named was 100%, or even close to that.

He's a damned fine kicker, and New England is fortunate to have him.

Well then you two should probably come to terms with the fact that there probably isn't a kicker in the league you'd be apt to "trust."

Actually, it does matter because they count the yardage into the endzone when it's not a TB.

Agreed, when I saw the title..I was like "Who hates Gostkowksi?"

While I am not extremely confident in him, I am not concerned about HIM. I'm just never confident in any kicker.

What you forgot to mention that if it weren't for a miraculous last second snag of Miami's Clyde Gate's leg in last weeks game ,we might be talking about just hoping to get the #2 seed....without him reaching out to trip him,Miami goes up 24-7

Do yourself a favor. Get a football. Put it in the freezer. Take it outside and then try and kick a 50 yard FG and tell me how you do. Better yet, tell me how your son does. I'll give you 100 chances to make just ONE.

Gostkowski has missed only 2 from inside of 40 yards this year. Not sure how that warrants the statement that "He seems to miss too many 'easy' FGs".

I would say that you and your son don't understand how hard it is to kick FGs from 40+ yards away.
