We have four offensive lineman in the top 4 at their positions: Light, Mankins, Connolly and Waters. Our fifth position (RT) has been shared between Solder and Vollmer, and has also been strong.
Its funny that Mankins who arguably is the most talented of this bunch has not been as good as in the past and others like Waters and Light have outperformed him at thier respective position on many an occasion.
Yeah, very pleased. The pick seemed like a 1 or 2 year backup project, and you had half the board insisting that BB drafted him under the mindset "SOLDER WILL NOT PLAY RT, HE IS A LT ONLY blah blah blah".
Where did that come from anyways? Why does everyone think they know what the team planned to use him for? He's played RT, LT, and TE for us this season, and performed admirably at all three positions.

For what it's worth, Football Outsiders currently ranks the Pats OL as being 2nd in run blocking, and 5th in pass protection. Interesting that they rate the Pats as being much more successful running up the middle and to the right than to the left - though you do have to consider the effect of Mankins as a pulling guard in runs to the right as well.
My unscientific feeling was they were doing better to the right side, too. ~Used~ to be better to the left, yeah? Thankfully, I saw the Denver game a couple times on NFL replay -- Mankins pulling was nice to see.
