Whatever their faults, and they are LEGION, the secondary was certainly better with them out there than with the likes of Matthew Slater and Sergio Brown. I can't take the Slater experiment anymore. I love him on S/T's, but it's got to stop.

I know Moore didn't look like much, but he has to be a better safety than at least ONE of Ventrone, Slater or Brown.

Honestly, at this point -- and I know, I know, BB and the gang have checked out the street FA veterans thoroughly -- how is Darren Sharper NOT worth taking a look at? Even this late into the season? A guy like him (or any number of JAG vet safeties) CAN'T help?

Sharper is retired. And they had him in for a workout and decided he wasn't worth picking up. And even then, he's always been more of a gambler than a consistent performer, both in coverage and against the run.

Sergio Brown makes me physically ill. Bring back Sterling!

you to?

was about to see a DR atleast its common so Ill soldier it out. :bricks:

I agree, but Moore is back on the PS and this game seemed to shape up as a damn college option game more than a passing situation.

Tebow actually has improved his mechanics incredibly in a short time, but he's still nothing special without the threat of the run. Hopefully, Moore's back. I don't know about Adams, I imagine some problem not apparent regarding play discipline.

Sergio Brown is the least physical safety I have ever laid eyes on, so I don't know why him over Sterling in this game. I've never seen SB tackle anybody, the most I've seen him do is help them land softly when they are already in the process of being tackled by someone else. Add his candy-a** and Ihedigbo's separated shoulder and it really was a miracle that we pulled that off yesterday.

I liked Moore tbh...he atleast liked to hit guys over the middle. Definately suprised that he was released considering the safety situation.

Surprised BB released Moore in the first place given the safety situation. He's a hitter and he's usually around the football. I'll take Sterling back there any day over any of these other experiments.

Is anyone else amazed at our defense actually making plays with guys who would be drinking beer with us if they didn't get a call from BB this year?

Well, he must impede someone's progress occasionally on special teams, I imagine.

Moore could come back instead of Ventrone.

I guess I'm gonna be (deservedly) banned from Patsfans because after witnessing Sergio's PIs at safety a couple weeks ago I suggested here that Slater be tried at safety again.
Mea culpa. Mea maxima culpa.

Rodney was a gambler as well. He freelanced all the time. So, using that as an excuse to not pick up a safety (even if it isn't Sharper) is pretty weak.

True, but Rodney was also good.

Sharper's goose is cooked. No two ways about it.

Both were good. We were just lucky enough to have Rodney gamble right most of the time. The times that he didn't have been all but erased from people's memories, which is what happens when you help the defense win two Super Bowls.

Rodney freelanced in San Diego. When he got to New England, Rodney rarely freelanced. He said it himself. He said he had to change the way he played and that he did and it made him a better player for it.

I don't believe Sharper was able to pass the physical, which is why he's not playing for anyone.

While I am amongst the Sergio Brown haters, Brown played decently yesterday. The only play people tried to pin on him was the deep ball to Thomas on the outside. The problem is that Brown had to cover Decker on the inside, who was passed to him by Nate Jones. It was McCourty who was supposed to stay with Thomas and didn't.

Safety has to be a top priority for the Pats this off-season. Whether it's bringing in a free agent, moving Dowling back there, drafting 2 players or a combination thereof.

The operative word being "were."

Judging by the quality of safety play in the NFL this season (or lack thereof), it would indicate to me that Sharper can't run well anymore. I'm pretty sure if he were capable of even serviceable play he'd be here instead of the revolving door of suck we've had back there all season.
