Me too although we still have Chung to come back which could make it a little better. Clearly we'll need to outscore teams to have a chance against decent offenses and I'm wondering if Tebow might get 300 yards next week

Chung is still bad in coverage, too. Not really sure how much he's going to help the pass D. The run D? Sure. But the pass D isn't going to make a miraculous turnaround because Chung is coming back.

That's because they apparently struggle playing man coverage, which means that we have to sit back in the soft-as-cake zone.

the D had 2 turn overs to their 1, which was the difference maker in the end. 1 extra possession in the end chalk one up for the D even if it was ugly bugly.:woohoo:

Interestingly enough, I've seen a respectable poster claim that "Brady had his worst game in a few years," Sunday at Washington.

That statement is coming off a 357 yard/3 TD/1 INT performance. I am sure that any of the other 31 teams would love to have such an awful performance from their QB.

The expectations and pressure on him are unfair and downright ridiculous.

If we're going to need more than 357 + 3 TD's to win in January, this defense is in worse shape than I thought.

Blame the offensive line, blame the lack of commitment to the running game, blame the lousy WR's (actual WR's...besides Welker), blame the lack of a consistent pass rush, blame the poor job of Mayo and the LB's--who looked lost many times during the game, and sure as hell blame that ridiculous excuse for a secondary.....but don't blame the ONE guy who is carrying the team.

There's no way that pass coverage is anywhere close to one of his strong points, he's downright terrible at it.

I seriously wouldn't be surprised if the secondary showed worse performances once he returns.

The benefits, of course, are his leadership/knowledge of the schemes and his strong run support + tackling.

Whether he sucks in coverage is irrelevant at this point. That's hardly a requisite. He has other qualities as you've mentioned and i feel that the D does play better with him in the lineup.

I read the same post referring to Tom Brady's so called "awful performance".

The same poster also stated in another post the New England Patriots, aside from the 2007 NFL Season, never had a defense that was rated top ten in total yards allowed during the Bill Belichick era.

The excuses for the New England Patriots defense this season on this message board have been ultra-pathetic.

I wonder how the New England Patriots would have played against the Washington Redskins with Ryan Mallett playing quarterback (third string) and Wes Welker, the New England Patriots best wide receiver, inactive for the game?

Hi, I don't post here much, but i enjoy some of the insight provided on this bored, unlike some (some articles are actually pretty good thought) of the media trash out there.

I have to say the D has looked good to great at certain points, like in the Cowboys (They won the game, allowed Brady to have a chance to win) game or the first half of the Giants game, as well as downright atrocious at other points. The last two weeks against the Colts and Redskins, we managed to make two offensive juggernauts out of two woefully inept offences, granted it was a fourth quarter spurt by the Colts.

For the person that said that maybe the Pats D is bad but the whole league is as well, I still don't think that is an excuse. Just look at the difference compared to the league average this year compared to 2003-2006 and 2010 which in its own right was downright atrocious as well.



I don't think you need statistics to see that this defence is just not that good. However I do stay optmistic about the playoffs as I do believe that this defence has shown the ability to play good pass D when the rush is getting to the quarterback. I just think we need to let Carter (BEAST!!!, awesome signing) and Anderson (even though average against the run) get after the QB. Even with Anderson, have Ninkovich play run support and linebacker in the 4-3, to cover up for the lack of run D if needed. Play with 7 up front and play rest in coverage. Ninkovich should be able to funnel the run back to Wilfork and Love (Turned in to a good UDFA).

I just hope we can get to getting after the QB, the D has shown that it can be good doing this. We don't have to play aggressive the whole time, but atleast switch it up!!!

What have you observed to substantiate that Rodney's claims are without merit and merely serve an inflationary purpose?

Rodney Harrison bled for the Patriots. Do you harbor the suspicion that it kills some of the former champion Patriots what the defense has become, especially the secondary?
