Looks like a mixed bag for the most part. Just looking at top 10 picks, I see some stars (Johnson) and likely future stars (Green). But I also see a lot of top 10 busts on that list -- Williamson, Williams, Ginn (as a WR) and Bey.

What is your opinion of players on non-playoff teams? It seems that by your logic you need to make a big play in an important game to classify as successful. Is every player drafted by SF, Oakland, Detroit, STL, etc all busts because they haven't made a big play in a meaningful game?

Doesn't look good for Price. If Brady can't get the best out of you, nobody can.

For those who want to cite Gaffney as an exception, consider his production post-NE has been more about volume. His target count was low here due to being behind Moss and Welker (and Stallworth in '07). He never had a full year as a starter here. Note the spike in target % (how much he's targeted in relation to his teammates) after leaving NE.

Of course if you look at his performance in the 2006 season playoffs, Gaffney saw a career-best in target %. Link ... in other words, Brady still has got more out of Gaffney's talent than any NFL quarterback has in the receiver's career, pre or post NE.

The Patriots are perennial contenders and arguably the most consistently successful team in the modern era of football......yet why don't we demote BB and have him report to the erstwhile GM of the Chargers? Wow. I am sure BB will be real good with that situation too. Fortunately if he is not we can scoop up the whole package and get Norv Turner too. If not Norv, hey does it really matter? We'll be a draft day force! There are plenty of available HCs that will take that team of draft day gods and turn them into something better than what we have. There really is no doubt in my mind, whatever the awesome GM we bring in and whatever the ensuing change at HC it may cause, the Patriots will be more successful and better off. :bricks:

I don't think BB is totally clueless about drafting WRs. He was going to take Percy Harvin in 2009 until Minnesota traded up just one spot before us and drafted him.

Bill just needs to admit he needs some help in drafting personnel. Cjackson, Bethel Johnson, Tate, Price etc....horrible drafts by BB

He's going to go perform well for some other team. Just watch.

I just cant help but think you are right on this one.....but time will tell. Chad Jackson had the most incredible physical football abilities in the history of WRs ....but look how he turned out. I hope Price does well,,...but not well enough to come back and bite us

If so, he will be the 1st WR in the Belichick era to produce at a higher level after they were cut.

The issue isn't that the Pats let go of good players.

The issue is that the team has not been effective at drafting and developing WR that can play at a consistent level in the NFL and be productive.

31 Years old or not...the more reason why Welker needs to retire here

Great WRs don't come through New England too often,Welker is one of them and Kraft needs to compensate Wes as reasonably as possible without entering cap hell.

Problem with Welk I think is that eventually his body is going to give out from all these bone crushing hits. Agree that he is arguably the best WR we have ever had......but I just worry about injuries piling up in next few years and like u mention, he isn;t getting any younger!

Apparently Belichick needs to draft either a unquestionable talented WR up in round one or grab one in round seven and hope we get another David Givens

He is not very good at WRs between 2nd and 4th round,the only real good pick in those rounds was Deion Branch.

Or better yet,Forget the draft and open the wallet a little wider for a top FA who is not 357 years old.

We tried that though right...?.....his name was Chad "Buster" Jackson.......

IMO Chad is a very expensive insurance policy, given the time it takes to acclimate a new receiver into this complicated offense, right now Chad may the best choice.

In the past Deion has always faced injury problems.. not sure he ever made it through a whole season.

We're going to be very thin at WR next year.

NEXT Year? We get one key injury to Welk or Branch and we are thin at WR THIS YEAR!!!
