Coples senior year has not been as productive as people had hoped and now he is sliding down draft boards.

At 6'5" and 265 pounds,he could fall to us and be that impact 3-4OLB that we desperately need.

Would BB pull the trigger on him,if he falls to us in the draft?

He'll take a less talented teammate and then won't play him at all his second year.

I had to check because I thought he was bigger than that and I see him listed at 6'6" 285. I don't think he makes it to the late 20's to 32nd where it appears both of our first two picks will reside. Bill won't trade up for him even if he makes it to the mid to late teens. If he falls further you have to figure something is really wrong with either work ethic, smarts or off the field issues.

That said if somehow it happens and they think he can put on the weight to be a RDE I'm on board.

Indeed, sir.

Sorry, Jones, but "Coples at 265 pounds" is pure fantasy. :nono:

We'd have to cut muscle off'f'm to get to 265...gristle, maybe.

He weighed in at an official 272 earlier this year, 6'6" and 1/4.

It would be a great steal in the draft but Coples won't fall that far. Latest prediction is he goes #9 and still predicted by most to go in the top 10 picks. Too much potential to fall to be available for the Pats in the 20's.

If, somehow, against all logic, he lasted to our pick, I'd scream like crazy for us to draft him. He can really collapse the pocket, and he does pretty well against the run, too. He reminds me of a slimmer Seymour on some plays. I've seen him destroy double teams, and even get past three blockers for sacks. He hasn't been as productive this year, but he should still end up with double-digit sacks two years in a row. He's quite athletic, though probably not quite as athletic as Peppers was coming out of UNC. He has the size to develop into an extremely versatile player; he can already play 43 DE and DT, and he's solid enough against the run that with another fifteen pounds of muscle, he could play 34 DE for us as well. As Ochmed indicated, he could probably also take snaps at OLB on occasion.

Normally I'm a bit skeptical of players like Coples, but I've seen enough of his games to feel comfortable drafting him with the Saints pick (since ours, naturally, will be higher).

At 6'6" and a 1/4 inch and 272 pounds I think he would be perfect for the elephant role that Willie had in our defense a few years ago. He is very fluid and has strength.

I don't understand why UNC kicks him inside, but from what I heard, he said he was willing to sacrifice the stats for the sake of the team. Sounds like a future Patriot.

The tape of his play has not been flattering this year but he does have a chance to rise back up the boards with a huge combine and pro day.

You sure about that?? I've never seen that number...

In any case, he's at 285, now, and has been for a while.

But assuming you're right ~ and you've earned the right to be taken at your word ~ then Brother Jones's notion does, indeed, become completely viable.

Regardless of his weight I'd look to draft the kid if he fell outside the top 10. Andre Carter is listed as 6-4 255 and he's been a beast for us this year.

I am 100% certain.

Another Willie? Will the Pats trade up for him?

Nope in theory a lot of draftniks are downgrading him and if he slides to us, will BB pull the trigger on him?

Who knows? I'm sure there are Pats scouts at every Alabama game doing their due dillegence. If he's there when the Patriots pick I'd like to see him selected. Doubt he will be. I can't see him falling past 15 unless there are 4 or 5 Qb's selected along with 3 or 4 Wr's.

I don't see any way Coples gets past 10, let alone make it to the Pats. While some draftniks may be dropping him based on statistics, many of the ones that have watched him play have been very impressed. The thing that I like most about him this year is his ability to be a team player. He is constantly double teamed, and instead of trying to be the hero and put up numbers, he just does his job and allows those around him to make plays. He is very strong at the point of attack, holds up and is disciplined against double teams and still manages to create pressure, even though the stats might not suggest it. If he were on the board for the Pats pick I would pull the trigger in an instant, unfortunately he is head and shoulders above any other D-lineman in this draft and I think he is still a likely top 5 pick.

I have not seen any scouts at the alabama games that we have produced yet this season. I have seen a lot of others teams, especially pittsburgh, but no patriots yet. We have been in auburn for a few days and i have seen cowboys, jets, 49ers, cardinal and bear scouts.

remember reading about reports on present scouts for each single game in a specific conference last year. I think that's great info, could anybody tell me where to look specifically?

Don't really think Coples is going to slide within reach...somebody is going to take a gamble way before us and it's not that he's playing badly. Subpar performance (regarding expectations), yes maybe, but he's not doing bad, as far as I heard.
