Why is Rob Stinkovich on the 53 man active roster?

Ninkovich does so much for the team that he doesn't get credit for. Regardless of scheme, he's exactly the kind of player that Belichick would love to have on his starting defense. He's 27 right now, meaning he's probably a lock to start on defense for the next 3 years at least, and probably closer to 5.

Re: Patriots are the Pig that built its House from Straw

I have no theory. I'm pointing out facts obvious to anyone that watched the game--the sacks were all of the coverage variety. That doesn't mean the coverage was good throughout the game, because it obviously wasn't. But the pass rush or lack thereof was complicit in the breakdowns.

The 85 Chicago Bears had the most awesome pressure defense ever. Yet when they went up against Dan marino, they got shredded because he got rid of the ball to open receivers.

It is such a myth that teams enjoy multiple sack games and decent pressure independent of whether they cover people. The problem with that game was that on 3rd and long, people were wide open all game. I guess if they had a better defensive backfield they would have kept a very dangerous QB in the pocket and sacked him 15 times...

We've been talking about this team's problems since 2009, and they are largely the same now as they were then, at least when it come to the defense.
The New England Patriots pass defense has progressively worsened since 2009 which is quite incredible.

BB would rather get rid of bad apples that won't play his defense and coach up willing scrubs. So be it, there's no one out there that's going to make a huge dent talent wise.

Either this is sarcasm or what is exactly wrong with the New England Patriots defense today.

I'm sorry, what are we (i.e. you) arguing about??

FACT: The sacks were coverage sacks after Big Ben held the ball for approximately 10 seconds.

FACT: The coverage sucked on most dropbacks all day.

Not sure why you think these have to be mutually exclusive.

Are you serious? He has no business starting for the Patriots defense. Having starters like Ninkovich is why they are garbage. If he's starting on the defense for the next 3-5 years, they're in big trouble. Watching him "rush" the passer makes me want to kill myself.

Fact: Per snap, Ninkovich was a more efficient pass rusher than Clay Matthews last season.

my guess is that the patriots looked at the film from last year's game and thought they could handle the steelers. brady saying that "against the steelers don't worry i got it" is not right attitude. the same attitude he had before SB42 when he laughed at plaxico. when the steelers D came out and took away the patriots receivers, brady was a deer in the headlights and looked totally confused. his lack of running ability is starting to hurt this team.

Receivers Not Open + no running game + brady not able to run = loss

We're arguing about the myth that defenses don't cover well, but still get great pressure and sacks. Did the Giants actually played pass defense on Lawrence Taylors sacks? I guess not.

It would be hard to find a game that had worse pass coverage than this one, yet they managed to rally and totally cover the field so incredibly, even an inept line managed to get five sacks.

Pretty much a Jekyll and Hyde secondary there, because most real superman sackers just demolish three step drops in fractions of a second despite poor coverage when the QB indeed could have hit his wide open first read.

Belichick values players who are solid in all aspects over players who are very good in certain aspects (rushing the passer, dropping into coverage) but lacking in others (run defense). About 90% of the players that posters on here would rather have starting than Ninkovich would just create another problem for all of you to complain about.

Fact: No Patriots opponent gives a crap about Rob Ninkovich.

Guess: They probably laugh that their opponent is starting Rob Ninkovich.

There's exactly 1 QB who can consistently make plays when his receivers aren't open and he doesn't have a running game. The rest of the guys (who all run slower than a 4.4) aren't doing it, and that includes Rodgers, Roethlisberger, and whatever other semi-mobile QB you want to throw out there.

What Belichick "values" has created a godawful defense.

Except that when Ninkovich is out, it creates a hole that can be exploited. Remember that play last playoffs when Shonn Greene ran off left tackle for the TD on 3rd down (followed by his "putting the Pats to sleep" celebration)? Ninkovich was out of the game with an injury at that point. The opponent took notice and took advantage.

Fact: Per snap, Ninkovich was a more efficient pass rusher than Clay Matthews last season.

Fact: Your alleged "fact" is just raw data that does not take into account any of the factors that are needed to be known, at all.

Fact: Your alleged "fact" is, therefore, absolutely useless as a fact.

Cool. Make a better one. Or go make a thread advocating Belichick being fired.

Well, it would be hard to make one that's worse than the worst pass defense ever.

How was this determined? Not trying to tear down your argument just curious
