Official Steelers vs. Pats POST game thread

REALLY?? You really though the defense played FINE except for 3rd down? THIS is the kind of thinking that i believe the Pats DEFENSE shares with you! Its ANYTHING but fine. It sucks. They need a tougher mentality and it sucks that its gotten so bad that even fans are accepting their soft play.

I didn't say that. read the post, it's sarcasm. I said that i could have completed passes on third down.

The line and linebackers are fine IMO, but they can't go all out if there are receivers wide open all over the field for various reasons. A team with no defensive backfield is not going to have a strong defense against a good quarterback

You're living in fantasyland if you think you can bring consistent pressure when you don't cover anybody, period.

On the plus side:

Last time Brady lost to the Steelers they went on to win the Super Bowl. Year before that the last time they lost to the Bills they won the Super Bowl as well. This year they lost to both. Mortal locks.

On the negative side:

The game.

I think it's safe to say that while Tom Brady is still playing at a pretty high level, he is no longer playing the best football of his career. Has time finally caught up with him?

Asinine incendiary comment. Congrats. Join the rest of the losers on this board.

Disappointing loss after a bye week. D was awful. You can argue their red zone d was ok because they held the steers to a bunch of FGs. The reality is the only play the D made all night was a pick. The rest of the night they allowed the Steelers to get in the red zone every time.

Offense was not great either. Pats were 3-10 on the 3rd downs. Receivers did not look great. Hell the offense did not even look like they wanted to be there

In my mind this was a measuring stick as to where this team stands. They played a tough opponent on the road and they were pretty much awful in every aspect of the game. The defense took two steps back and now has a bunch of questions again. Offense was not much better. Yes, this team will probably win 12 games (the only real tough games they have coming up are the Giants, Jets and Philly after that they plays teams they should win) and trick us into thinking the are contender then will likely end up losing in the first round.

For all we did wrong, we were still in the game until the end. Our D was a disgrace, and the Steelers were right on target. That said, we held the Steelers to only 25 points despite the fact our D sucked and their O was on fire.

I still think BB is the best coach in the league, but he's now a known entity and everyone is copying his good ideas. I don't think he brings as much originality into the game as he once did. He should bring some fresh blood on the coaching side into the organization.

I must say that the 3 and 12 and 3 and 15 conversions really infuriated me. Actually, they deflated me.
It wasn't the conversions that irked me PJ it was the amount of room afforded to Miller or the wideouts that annoyed me.

First night on the thread.

Pretty disappointed with the overall performance today. I understand that the Pats' defense is pretty terrible, but this "bend don't break" defense is killing us. Opponent tight ends will always be able to run their little under routes, picking our deep coverage apart yard by yard. There is no wonder why Big Ben was able to throw the ball 50+ times with consistent results.

Yep. Carter came up huge on 1st down to get a big sack. Two plays later, it was all for nothing.

Defense has been slowly improving every week, but I think they took a step back today.

Re: ****** Official unofficial Patriots/Steelers postgame thread ******

I hate everything.

1. Our defense was down right putrid today. They are BAD in general, but this was just astonishing. So for those blaming the O...there is not much you can do when you only have the ball for 20 minutes. The Steelers came out with the intention of sustaining long drives and our defense allowed them to.

2. Why did the Coaches not seem to adjust in this game? On Offense or on Defense..

3. I also don't think Woodhead should be returning kicks, I had the same fumble waiting to happen feeling.

4. Ever since Bradys knee injury he has struggled with the deep ball. It got worse after Moss left, I am not sure why that is. 2007 was kind of an anomaly, but how did he go from really good at it to that bad? I understand he has never been a great deep passer, but a regression like this is a head scratcher.

5. The whole team looked on edge today. It's almost like they never settled down. We all know the Pats tend to lay one egg a year, and I do have hope we will bounce back against the Giants.

6. Last but not least. We are not going to the SB this year. As a matter of fact we are not going to the SB until we have at least a "decent" defense. PERIOD. That's just the way it is, I hate that we are wasting away Brady years, constantly trading down for "value" in the draft. Quite frankly I'm over it. So flame me on that if you want. I will still root my heart out for the Pats every single Sunday, but I'm not going to sit here with unrealistic expectations. I would rather be pleasantly suprised if I am wrong.

Hope this loss leaves a very sour taste in the teams mouth and they come out firing next week.

Before the season began Vegas had Pitt winning this game.

Weird.

Me too. It was bad when it got to a point no matter what down it was you knew you weren't going to get off the field. We got dissected like a squid today in the secondary. I just don't see a quick fix to it.

I apologize if i misinterpreted your post. Its the anger/frustration getting to me. BUT, i never said that there was a quick fix. Thats part of what pisses me off. If they took care of this previously we could be on the right track by now. I believe its going to take at least a year or two to get this defense competetive AFTER bringing in a new philosophy and coordinator. This defense has bigger holes than Bibi Jones!

I will simply have to disagree with that.

You're welcome to disagree all you want. History has proven your argument to be wrong.

I'm not the gloomy type, but i can't see where 2-3 people that can cover an NFL receiver come from this time of year. In 2005, we had a hell of an injury bug and went through prospects like nothing until we found a retread CB and made him a safety. I can see getting rid of bad apples, but you need a minimum amount of talent to play CB, I'm sorry.

The good news about the inevitable board meltdown after a loss: it gives me more time to get work done.

Heck, the week after SB42 was probably the most productive week I've ever had. :) :(

In game adjustments have been nonexistent from this team for a very long time now.

This team looked way too overconfident coming into this game. every once in a while you need a butt kicking.

Brady's deep ball is average. His miss on an open Price was costly. I am not afraid to say Brady's best is behind him. Makes sense being that he is 34. His best year IMO was 2007. He could have had well over 4 picks last year.

BB is a great coach but I think he needs to humble himself. We had no reason to onside kick.
