Solder the 'Right' Tackle of the future?

It's a great problem to have for sure. Solder is playing 'out of position' but he's still doing pretty darn well for a rookie. Depending on Light's health, and when Vollmer gets back, we might be seeing the Solder/Vollmer combo sooner than we think. I still haven't heard any solid news yet about how bad Light got hurt on the last drive in the Cowboys game.

I have been extremely impressed with how well Solder has played this year. I really think BB wanted to red shirt him this year, but that didn;t work out as intended.

I can;t help but think how good Solder will get with a year of pro style S&C under his belt.

I wonder how serious Vollmer's back injury is. He had surgery on the back in college and if this is a chronic situation, then we are going to need to draft another OT. Not sure why BB cut Maneri, but he would be nice to have as an option right now.

Vollmer totally and consistently stonewalled Dwight Freeney 1-on-1 during that game in rookie year. I remember Chris Collinsworth going on about it too. Virtually no one, aside from Orlando Pace, could do that. I want Vollmer at LT.

Without the benefit of coaches tape or assignments, I'm going to guess that BB/Dante isn't leaving Solder on an island over on that right side. He's probably getting shades from Waters and extra TE help. If I have to bet, he gets more help than Light does at this stage of both their careers.

Unless Vollmer is seriously hurt, I don't see how, despite Solder's good performances, he doesn't walk back into the team. He's already the best RT in the league.

I'm delighted we'll have this problem to look forward to in the short term, and I'm delighted that at some point, they will be our bookends.

I am surprised when i see comments like he will surpass light. Light came in and started as your SB winning tackle from day 1.satz

lol. Yes he will eventually surpass Light be it age or erroding skills. I'm sorry you took it the wrong way. I don't think anyone is saying Solder is going to "surpass" what Light has done for a career here in New England. Besides Bruce Armstrong he has been the best LT in franchise history. Of course one can hope. But the eyeball test so far is telling me Solder will be a legitimate Tackle in this league for years to come. Time will tell from which side but I'm pretty sure BB mentioned the left when they drafted him.

Solder thought his future was going to be as a TE.....this kid has had one surprise after another.

Imagine if he refused to take advice and move to LT in college and stayed at TE....he might have never landed in the NFL
