Defense? What defense!!!

I guess Rex Grossman circa 2006 never existed. He used to play like he was running a passing drill with opposing defensive backs and the Bears would still win because their defense was good. All this team needs is a mediocre, middle of the pack, 16th rank defense. Unfortunately they are not even close to that. :bricks:

The patriots are the most finesse team in the league..

Finesse isn't the issue. I wouldn't care if the defense was getting off the field by tipping passes rather than stuffing the run or sacking the quarterback. The problem is, when not forcing turnovers, they are doing nothing.

Who honestly expected them pull out the stop agains the Bills offense on that last drive?

The only time this defense looks good is when they are on the sideline. It's asham we have to rely on our offense to score 34+ points just to stay in it. We give the defense a 21 point cushion and that's not enough. Talk about putring pressure on Brady.

BB need to find someone to take over as DC. He is not a defensive genius, that was years ago.

IMO the problem is the talent on defensive side of the ball not the scheme / coaching / play-calling.

we never had a legit defense for the past 5+ years. BB has become the offensive genius...

We are last in the league, so that would mean the other 31 teams have more talented players on defense. Not trying to argue but I would bet my life's savings that Fat Rex could turn this defense into at least a top 10.

This team might actually have a 16th rank D if the coaching staff would EXPLOIT the STRENGTH of this team - the offense - by playing good old fashion PATRIOT WAY football.

You get a lead and then you manage the game by managing the clock.

Remember the days when Peyton Manning was in his prime and we would play keep away and play ball/clock control all game long?????????
Remember when is was a PRIORITY to keep other offenses off the field???

When did that change??
That changed when BB decided the Patriots needed to become the Colts.
Until that changes and the PRIORITY of this team is not Tom Brady's passing stats but GRINDING OUT WINS this team will win nothing......as it has for 3 years now.

= panzies, pushovers, gutless. I would definately say that for the Defense. The offense has a ******ed OC, period.

Up 21-0, hello ! You play to win the game moron, run the ball !!!

Defence was lost at sea today, but hopefully with players coming back from injury we will be stronger for next game and come away with a win.

The lack of pass rush is deafening.

New additions not looking so hot. It'll be time to start writing some of them off if it hasn't noticeably improved 2 games from now.

Also, Josh Barrett is terrible. I watched him his whole college career and his game hasn't changed. He has all the size and speed to be a stud but the nastiness of a labrador puppy. No instincts for blowing a play up. It looks like he closes his eyes whenever he gets close to contact. Sanders probably would have been more useful.

What Pass Rushers are available for trade? Is Darren Sharper still available?

The problem with this team is the defense and their inability to stop anyone."PATRIOT WAY football" had a defense line that was made up of 1st rounders ,and was arguably the best line in football. The current team is not good enough to stop anyone, hence he offense has to score as many points as they can because we need them. If we had a defense with talent like the old teams what you say would make sense but we don,t. Slowing down the team would only result in more scoreless drives , and more defeats.
By the way the patriots offense has routinely been top five in terms of time of possession for the past couple of years.

Perfect? No. All he had to do was have an average to slightly above average game. Few teams can win when the QB throws 4 picks. I'm sorry, this one is mostly on Brady.

You won't find many people saying 4 INTs were not a big part of the loss.

That said, when your QB throws picks at the 5 and the 4 and your defense gives up 95 and 96 yd TD drives it makes no sense to absolve them of blame. Good defense don't give up 2 TD drives of that distance in a season.

Even though Brady threw four picks he still put the team in position to win at the end of the game. It fell on the defense when they proceeded to let Buffalo march down the field for an easy FG that probably would of been a TD if they weren't burning clock. We have no pass rush, no real play makers in the front seven besides Wilfork, and a worse secondary than last yearn Belichick is looking like a dumb ass for cutting Sanders and Meriweather.

If only we drafted Clay and Dunlap...

My question is did Brady/Lawrence Taylor make Belichick, or vice versa.
