He finds plenty encouraging about the defense, despite the yards allowed:

Overnight ratings are high - The Boston Globe

Love how Bedard offers actual football analysis. (The print edition of the article even includes a - *gasp* - play diagram!) And props to the Globe for encouraging it, rather than assigning him some human-interest piece about a player's brave dog or some such.

What about the brave dog? Did it save the life of a little kid? Where is that kid today? Do you have a link?

Hell yeah, a diagram!

That said, it was a good article.

Only the most unrepentant of fantasy football dorks could fail to see the obvious on-field improvement of the defense over last year's edition. And we've yet to see Spikes and Cunningham.

Meanwhile Rappaport is focused on admonishing a guy who won three rings here about calling out a guy even's he's concerned about just because he tweets...LOL

Sparky lost his left foreleg rescuing a firefighter who was attempting to retrieve an American flag flying from the roof of a burning schoolhouse. He now has an artificial leg, hand-carved from #2 pencils by the school's grateful students, who raised money for the project by selling wristbands with the slogan, "Never Give Up." Sparky lives in a house between the two Gronkowski brothers, and helps keep them game-sharp by throwing them sticks.

This bit made me happy:

Dan Connolly was tough as nails moving to center after Dan Koppen went out. He brought the fight to the defense more than he does at right guard, perhaps because there was always someone lined up over him.

Lol! Very funny

IIRC after the first drive 4 straight 3 and outs that didn't happen a lot at the beginning of last year.

This stuff is GOLD to a real football fan. Its so much more substantial that trotting out media made pseudo controversies like "Bruschi-gate", and the harping on fantasy stats to derive insightful analysis.

I was originally skeptical of the medium from which Bedard was getting his data from. Is it the network TV feed or is he getting a copy of the coaches tapes, a la Jaws? If its the latter, then what he does is a real service to Patriot Nation, and should be applauded. Its important information he is disseminating to us. Even if its the former, and the info is somewhat flawed due to the limitations of the Network feed, his efforts should be commended. He is providing insights based on what happened on the field,

He and Reiss actually give the fans what they need to make up their OWN decisions about what has occurred on the field. I for one am getting really tired of the media driven "point/counterpoint" phony debate style of analysis we see constantly from ESPN and Comcast. Though I guess that is better than the media CREATING a issue by reporting speculation clothed as fact.

We should totally do a book on this.

I'm almost positive it is the network feed, not an all-22 tape. A short while back the guys at Patriots Football Weekly were saying that they don't have access to even small snippets of the coaches tape, much less the whole game (even though they are part of Patriots.com), and the same holds true for almost all the rest of the media. They went on to say that the NFL makes a very small portion available to a few selected sites (like Jaws at espn), but it's not as if they are giving them an entire game film to dissect; apparently they're just handing over a few key plays for him to discuss and nothing more.

Yeah, I read this morning--good piece. I actually feel he may have been a bit TOO bullish on the defense, but it was unquestionably greatly improved from last year, particularly on 3rd down. Add to that the fact that Spikes didn't play and McCourty wasn't at his best, there's ample reason to be excited about this defense, and this team.

Two things:

1. I'm going to love these GB writeups this season.
2. Sparky is a good dog.

This makes me sad patchick.

Why do you hate heroic puppies?

Guyton was back to struggling against the run, and he was likely responsible for Henne’s 9-yard touchdown run.

This can't be right, I've been assured by people in the know that Mayo should be able to run in 2 different directions at once.

The line on Ochocinco was great. Phrases like "rookie mistake" and "being brought along slowly"...if you didn't know who he was, you might actually think that's a line about an actual rookie.

Regards,
Chris
