I think that with the addition of Albert Haynesworth, and those monsters up front as well as switching to a 4-3 Scheme will give Jerod Mayo and Brandon Spikes great opportunities. Just their talent and playmaking ability bring opportunities alone, but I also think that if Brandon Spikes can stay healthy that this will be the best 1-2 punch Combo LB in the NFL. Do you agree or disagree?

you mention'd 4-3 defense and ILB combo in the same argument. Either Im missing something or I think its time for me to go to bed.

Re: Jerod Mayo & Brandon Spikes: NFL's Best Combination

Is Mayo going OLB now?

This is why I've been a forum lurker for years but never post.

Spikes doesn't really belong in any "best linebackers in the NFL" conversations.

Mayo is one of the best ILB's in the NFL but Spikes may not even be a starter with the pats this year

As crazy as it may sound to some, I'd take his cousin at ILB just the same.

(not meaning/thinking long term or 'potential upside')

I still think Takeo Spikes is a solid ILB, despite being on the downside/end of his career. I think he plays smart, and is a solid vet presence.

This will be a make or break yr for Brandon Spikes here, one way or another.

I think Spikes is going to have a breakout year playing behind the mountains he will be running behind, but it is way, way too premature to consider Mayo and Spikes as the top LB combo in the league. At this point, I wouldn't even put them in the top 10.

If it were Mayo and Ray Lewis, then yes....Spikes has no reason to be considered anything at this time...not even close

I like Spikes, but I haven't seen nearly enough to say he's even the second best linebacker on this team at the moment, let alone part of the best duo in the league. I expect him to take a step up this year, but until he does let's settle down a bit.

I like Spikes but I have questions about his maturity and capability. Hope for the best.

As to Pats ILBs none other than Tedy Bruschi has said that Fletcher's ability, background as a pass rush DE in college and approach to the game reminds him most of himself. Think about that.

I used think only smart people joined the Navy and the dumb*sses (like me) joined the Marines.......I guess not.

Petty Officer your dismissed.

Personally, I have no doubt that Brandon Spikes is going to be a player for us. I think the "maturity" issues have been exaggerated big time.

Do they have potential to be the best LB pair in the league? Yeah, I'd say they both have that kind of elite potential. But Spikes still has to prove it, and I'd say that Mayo needs to be more of a game-changer to hit that level.

Yeah, all of his so-called problems this year were based on speculations from tweets on his Twitter account. Even his profile description has been analyzed to death.

As long as football is played in Pittsburgh, there will be no doubt where the NFL's best LB corp resides.

Suggs and Lewis are pretty damn good as well

They are excellent. However, year after year…the Steelers show they know how to draft, train, and execute 5-star play from the LB position. If I had to put a team together RIGHT NOW, I would not take Ray-ray + Tsizzle over Harrison and Woodley. Or even put Timmons in there…any combo of the 3.
