The official Patriots vs Lions's pre-season game thread

Has the team ever looked this bad in any of their preseason games since 2001? I honestly don't think they have. If anyone can name one in which the starters got kicked around the way they did, I'd love to be enlightened....anyone know of a third preseason game in which the Patriots were down 27-10 in the Belichick era????????

2004, down 28-3 to cinch at halftime

This thread is almost as bad as a regular season game when we're down by two TDs. The team you see tonight is nothing like you'll see in week 1. This game is all about evaluation.

You saw the defense blitz more than one player in their 4 DL set?

I never saw ONE time...maybe you could point out those SPECIFIC plays...I DID count as he made drops and he consistently had 4 count pass plays...he got hit a few times...but I haven't seen ONE defensive set that looked remotely like anything they showed in game two

Neither have I. This defense looks like the one they ran last year.

There was one season, were the Pats completely sucked in the 3rd preseason game, and they went on to win the superbowl, what year was that?

I'll second that. I have seen the Patriots do very little blitzing.

The offense looks to be out of sync, the defense looks to be out of sync, special teams looks to be out of sync. One has to wonder if they are thinking about their families back at home with hurricane Irene bearing down, their possible flying back trying to beat Irene, etc., etc.

Also, I think that this Lions team (especially the D) is dramatically improved. You have to wonder if the Pats took them lightly because they are the Lions and/or the Lions are treating this MUCH more seriously as a test for their team and potential confidence booster.

The Lions are out playing the Pats through and through and it's not even close tonight.

However, that said... it is only a preseason game.

is that the lions 2nd-3rd string offense moving on our first string defense?

The term would be straw man, and I was doing nothing of the sort.

"Thus, a "red herring" argument is one which distracts the audience from the issue in question through the introduction of some irrelevancy."

You went to, "Well the Lions should win the SB based on your argument". No one with a gram of intelligence was saying that.

The argument started out with you saying everyone was overreacting for calling for extra OL help. Those watching the game, and that have been taking notice where the team struggles when they lose the last several years, are seeing the same reoccurring problems.

Your Lions statement = red herring

I hate non NE native (American) Pats fans. Hate them like f'ckin aids.

He should still get at least a half a sack for that.

That was ABSOLUTELY PATHETIC. Dude had him in the grasp and couldn't complete the sack. I'm done with this game. I have enough to worry about outside.

I am actually glad that I am not able to watch the game and instead go by what's reported here.

relieved in a way that this should be a wake-up call for those players thinking that every game will be as easy as the first two.

NOw, will that shan**** of Boston Globe write tomorrow asking the other NFL teams to now feel brave considering this putrid performance by the Pats?

I don't think we had our first string defense fully on the field at any point in time tonight. This is one of the most stripped down and vanilla games i've ever seen.

2004..........

I refuse to accept any roody poo such as it's only preseason, the family back home on their minds (gimme a break) or any other excuses.

Of all the preseason games, the 3rd game has some weight.

I can deal with everything, the bad pass protection, the lack of pressure......but the secondary is getting schooled.

McCourty looked horrible. Arrington looked horrible.

It almost seemed like they thought last week's pass pressure would return and the QBs wouldn't get passes off.

Anderson...... ><

Time for the UFC I have recording. Id rather watch someone other than the Pats get their asses kicked.
