Meriweather to be cut or traded speculation (merged many times)

You know, I've watched this thread for a while, and the only conclusion I can reach is that the anti-Meriweather sentiment is racial and cultural in nature.

It was the same with Maroney.

There's a certain contingent on this board that accepts black players as long as they "act white." Short hair, doing what massah Bill says, and working the NFL fields are all signs that a black player is "acting white."

But when a player has dreads, or he otherwise tries to be an individual, he's off the plantation. He's "acting black." The usual suspects on this board don their white hoods, and while maintaining the thinnest veneer of non-racialism, they attack the player mercilessly.

I think some of you anti-Meriweather bigots need to take a look in the mirror at the rot in your soul, and really ask yourself if you like what you see.

And that's real talk.

Yeah, all the Spikes hatred on this board is incredible, same with the hatred for Larry Fitzgerald, no Pats fan wants him here, those black guys with their dreads. Although Ocho doesnt have dreads everyone here hates him just the same, damn him and his strong personality.

You're trying to play the race card because a black guy was criticized by a bunch of people who are likely to be white. Did you EVER think, even for a second, that the criticism for Maroney, Butler, Brace, Merriweather, or anyone else generally disliked on this board has to do with their play on the field instead of their color?

You're an idiot, go away.

"The Patriots are unhappy with the play of FS Brandon Meriweather, sources tell the Boston Globe.
The Patriots made a contract offer to Dashon Goldson before he re-signed with the Niners and also had Darren Sharper in for a workout. In practices, Sergio Brown is taking chunks of reps with the starters. It's clear that even though Meriweather went to the Pro Bowl a year ago, the Patriots didn't think that was deserved. IDP owners should look for safer options."

How stupid are you??. If this board hated "all black people", most of us would hate Vince, Mayo, Chung, McCourty, Kyle A, Ridley and Bennie.

wouldn't that be the opposite of 'acting white'?
just sayin'.

Last on this derailment, but are black people not predispose to have short hair anyway? Or he meant to say braiding of hair is exclusive to blacks? Or.. mind ****.

I don't agree with NEP4LIFE but what's with the "Real"? I don't get it.

I bet Matt Light and Ninko is glad skin color makes him immune to critical commentary of play.

Kazur always knew that.

Besides, how can it be racism when the majority of our players are not white?

I think when someone uses it, they are insinuating that whatever they are saying is the unequivocal truth.

Yes, I agree. A lot of it is b/c Chung is perceived as being a harder worker, and that Meri is a slacker, a freelancer, a bad angle taking tackler etc.
:

Exactly. There's a reason Merriweather gets more playing time than Chung: As of this point, hes a better player.

Chung is TERRIBLE in coverage. Terrible.

One of the greatest men ever to walk this planet once said he hoped one day his children would be not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

Perhaps you should look in the mirror and evaluate your character.....

In the past few weeks, Clayton Bigsby has finally accepted that he is a black man. And just three days ago, he filed for divorce from his wife. When asked why, after nineteen years of marriage, he replied, "Because she's a ****** lover."

oh that chappelle show was great

Or the first shots fired in a contract negotiation.

"Dear Brandon

. Two pro bowls or not. you're not getting a huge pay day.

hugs and kisses

Unless you mind is constantly filled with racial thoughts, why in the world would you ever come up with this?

Practically every player on the Patriots is both given too much credit and too little credit, sometimes in threads that go on for months. The fact that Meriweather has obvious strengths (e.g. turnovers) and obvious weaknesses (e.g. not wrapping up, taking bad angles) make it very easy to focus on one or the other and argue your position that he's a worthy All-Pro or someone who really hurts the team (which he does at times) and the Pats should get rid of him.

It's the most normal thing in the world for this conversation to be taking place on a Patriots message board. To think otherwise is to not understand the nature of message boards or to not realize how Meriweather is a boom/bust player that invites controversy.

The one thing that stinks if the Pats unload Meriweather is that Atari Bigby signed with the Seahawks yesterday. Now we will have to settle for Colecovision Jones or Sega Genesis Smith.

Safety is an area we don't have a lot of depth. I'll be surprised if we cut Meriweather. I think J. Sanders is better as a 3rd safety. If he started, I don't think we would get as much out of him as we do in current role. And, we wouldn't have any depth then.
