I don't think Jordan fits our scheme. But I agree that the opportunity cost we incur by trading for future picks is hurting the team.

Looking at it in hindsight, we helped Green Bay win a championship by passing on Jennings, Mathews, and Bulaga due to trades.

We just handed the Jets Wilkerson. It makes me sick. We all knew Wilkerson was not going to be a day 1 starter in our defense, but with a year of development, he would be a 8 to 10 year starter and provide excellent run support while keeping O lineman off our LBers.

I want to know what you've been watching of him because I kept my eye on him twice in live games (I was watching because a kid from my area was also playing on the line) when I was in the stadium (UConn and PSU). Granted, I base my opinion of only those two games, but I was not impressed. I have the same exact feeling about Phil Taylor having seen him play live a number of times.

These kids must have been wonders during the Senior Bowl to impress scouts as much as they have, because they surely didn't bring it on gameday.

When is the last time they didn't use one? They almost ALWAYS draft a player with the pick they traded for, and then trade their own pick.

Last year they traded 1.22 for 1.24 and 4.16 (Aaron Hernandez).

They then traded 1.24 for 1.27 (Devin McCourty) and a 3rd (Taylor Price).



IE, for 1.24 they got Hernandez, McCourty, and Price.


If you think these sorts of things are robbing the Patriots of talent, then you're an idiot.

Note: New Orleans re-signed Pierre Thomas to a four-year contract. Although Chris Ivory is still recovering from Lisfranc surgery, the drafting of Mark Ingram can't please Reggie Bush. Nonetheless, you've to like their potential depth at running back.

Bush is gone because he's scheduled to make 11M if the Saints keep him. Bush was never a 'bellcow' feature back anyways. Ingram will be that feature back for the Saints. Bush was also an injury-prone player that could not be relied upon as a starter when Thomas and Ivory went down.

Yes, Bush is a mismatch weapon and a dangerous returnman. But he'll never be a feature back in the NFL and he's not worth the $$ for the Saints.

I already know that. He made my "loser" list because he might have overreacted by the selection. He was in a good situation with New Orleans. Now he'll likely have to find a niche on a new team.

The media mentions New Orleans selecting Deuce McAllister in 2001 even with already having Ricky Williams. Subsequently, Williams was traded a year later. Not the best analogy, but I suspect Bush is expendable regardless of what either he or New Orleans say now.

The reaction is understandable but only acknowledges half of the story. I reckon acquiring an additional first round selection next year isn't viewed as a coup anymore. Regardless, you've to believe that Belichick has his sights on free agency. Personally, I don't see a legitimate option in free agency at defensive end because it seems everyone fits more into a 4-3 alignment or they're restricted free agents.

This is why these day after the weekend draft grades are more incomplete than a final verdict. The grade should leave open the inclusion of the rest of the off-season activity too.

They simply ignored the problem in the draft. New England will not win a Super Bowl again until its mundane Defensive Passer Rating improves by 10 to 15 points. The top two teams in DPR last year? Green Bay No. 1; Pittsburgh No. 2.

i.e. suppose the Pats pick 28th next year and the Saints pick 20th. Then you can simply pick at 20 instead of 28, and still continue the stream of free 2nd round picks by trading the 28. Not only did you get your free 2nd, but you got a free trade up of 8 spots in the first round.

I dunno, as a fan, I love the fact that we can get premium players like Mayo, Wilfork (and hopefully Solder) that are outsider our draft range on basically a yearly basis, and then get free prospects like Chung.

No it wont. We'll use it to draft a player higher in the first round than our own pick would allow us to, we'll draft a player in the 2nd round (vereen in this case), and then use our pick to do the sam thing (grab another 2nd and a higher first).



We move back so we can pick 10 slots higher in the first round every year, and get a free 2nd rounder in the process.

I think one of the reasons he traded back is that the 2012 draft is supposed to be significantly better than this year's draft. The junior prospects will have no trepidation about a lockout when making their decision. The sooner they get past their rookie contract. The sooner they start making money. I think that will cause many of them to come out. Similiar to 07. Didn't like the board. We got stuck with J. Mayo. And, in 03 he didn't like the board. Got stuck with Wilfork in 04. Let's see who BB selects before we rip this trade.
