17 - pouncey
28 - wilkerson

pretty conservative approach, but I'll take it because its all about the OL and DL anyway

Yeah I have to believe that Pouncey will be the guy if he is still on the board alas. Not a very sexy pick and it does not address that Patriots pass-rush but OL is a huge need. Snore...but if he is anything like his twin than he will be anchoring the line for years to come.

As I stated before BB will go into the draft with 3-4 areas of need. When the Patriots number is called they will decide who is the best choice on the board among their need areas. Those areas are debatable but you have to believe it is some combination of pass-rusher safety and OL.

I support drafting offensive linemen fairly early in the draft. I do not support a player who is purely a guard in the NFL with the 17th pick.

I'm with you -- I think Pouncey would be terrible value there. He's just not head and shoulders ahead of the rest of the OG class, and the opportunity cost is huge.

Wow, if the draft played out the way it did in that mock that has to be the least sexy group of prospects left at 17 possible. Trade down anyone?

i'm the same if those are the picks i hope it's because pats trade down to 22/23 region and then i don't mind that.

If Watt, Jordan or Aldon Smith aren't there at 17 i'd actually preffer us to trade to the low 20's then pick uo a OL (carami or Pouncey) then front 7 (Wilkerson, Kerrigan, Heyward e.t.c)

Maurice was taken at 18 last year so to take Pouncey at 17 you are basically saying he is a better player then his brother. On top of that, over the past 10 years no guard or center has been selected higher then 17, so if some team does select him that high you'd have to think he is a probowler in this league. I think he has too many question marks to make it that early, but this is a weak draft class.

Exactly. The huge difference is that Maurkice was capable of playing any of the 3 interior positions. I'd never trust Mike at center with the amount of shotgun snaps that the Patriots use. I can't stand Koppen being overpowered constantly, but it's hard to not take his shotgun snaps for granted.

To be fair to Mike, he got MUCH better with the shotgun snaps as the year went along.

Anybody else find it awfully ironic that it's Gator Mike defending Mike Pouncey?

i can see us drafting pouncey before our second first round selection, but i think we would trade down a little then draft him

He's filling in for Seminole Mike while he's on sabbatical.

Indeed.

The cold hard truth is that there simply isn't a Center worth drafting, this year, despite our need to upgrade.

This, again, was why I was so adamant about snagging his brother, last year.

Having failed to do so, we need to wait for Brewster or Konz...or BOTH.

Nicely put, on both accounts: As a Center, Pouncey The Lesser makes one HELL of a Guard.

Au contraire mon frere OTG on Brewster. No way would I put my eggs in that basket.

I'd actually be happier if the order was switched...but that wouldn't make me particularly happy either.

I think Kris O'Dowd is the better center. I'd take him straight-up over Pouncey....let alone that he might be able to be had no earlier than the 3rd.

If we've be pegged to Pouncey as a Mankins replacement, I'd rather go with Watkins or Boling.

I guess I'm saying that I'll be very disappointed if Pouncey is a Patriots unless he drops to the mid-2nd.

Non? Interesting...

May I inquire what your thinking is on that, as I accord it much respect?

Just one man's humble opinion admittedly based on just one game - the 2011 Sugar Bowl. Because I had seen his name bandied about (primarily by you my good sir OTG) as a potiential OC draftee in 2011 (before he declared) I made a point to watch him carefully in that game. I just didn't see anything that impressed me. He just wasn't stout enough by my eye. But given that it was one game, I won't write Brother Brewster off just yet, but will rather take a wait and see approach next year.

Ah but if you were to replay the tape and re-do last years draft with perfect hindsight...it would go something like this:

1) Suh
2) Bradford
3) McCourty
4) Berry
5) Pouncey

Or something like that. I suspect that Pouncey would be in the top 10....

per the NFL standard of the top guard not being selected before the 17th pick, pouncey would still be selected where he was. NFL teams just don't put high value on that position compared to others.
