33 is an ideal pick for trading to receive a 2012 first, because it would let, for example, a team that didn't get the QB they needed in the first round take the best remaining QB (in their book) before anyone else can grab him.

I could see the Pats getting a 2012 1 + 2011 3 for that pick.

If the Pats trade 33 away, I have a hard time seeing them trade down from 60, since the compensation just wouldn't be worth it. I could certainly see them trading 74 or especially 92; in the past four years they have traded FIVE third-round picks into future years for seconds* the next year.

[*Okay, so they got a third when they did it with Jokeland. But even Al Davis understood Jokeland was going to suck the next year.]

Nice overall effort. This draft is so hard to predict even in the top 5!

There is no clear cut #1 pick.
Almost all the teams in the top 5 need a QB, but who will actually pick one?
Half the teams in the top 6 are in the process of switching defensive fronts.
There are about half dozen defensive front 7 players worthy of a top 10 pick, but who likes whom?
The best overall player is a CB, but who will go for him?
And then there are the possible trades to consider.

I will be very surprised if anybody out there gets 7 of the top 10 picks correct.

I disagree. With all night to think about it, coupled with the extra holes in many teams caused by the shortened FA signing period, there will be a number of teams competing for that pick. Throw in the fact that a 2012 first rounder could potentially be just one pick higher than 33 and it is hard to imagine the bidding starting at anything less than a 2012 1st and 4th.

This draft class may not be the deepest, but because of the NFL's unique situation, draft picks this year have a much inflated value. Years from now, we're going to look back at the 10-11 (12?) drafts as BB's masterpiece. When teams consistently, carefully plan for the future for long enough, it really starts to pay off.

Very good work and hard to do. I have my ideas and like Dry Heat, I see trades but a little different this year. This will be the big unknown with new rules dictated by a new CBA. I am still a adamant advocate of using these chips to help this Team in 2011. Who knows about 2012, 2013 etc. Injuries and defections play a big part. I am mostly interested in how the acquisition of new players helps this Team to win a SB in 2011. Honestly it takes three years to evaluate and as I have said many times, only a 17% chance as per average of every NFL Team that the player drafted will become a top tier contributor to said Team, not a JAG or roster filler or out of the League.
I will give this a stab soon....with trades!

#53 Indianapolis Colts: Tyler Sash, SS - Way too high.

#60 New England Patriots: Marcus Cannon, G - Doesn't fit the NE profile at all...fat, sloppy, and slow-footed.

#62 Chicago Bears: Marvin Austin, DT - The Rams took him 15 picks ago.

#63 Pittsburgh Steelers: Quan Sturdivant, ILB - Too high and isn't a Pittsburgh-type player. Seems more of the Indy/Tampa type.

Comments on Pats selections:

Watt at 17 is great pick;

No big problem with Harris at 28 but if Ayers available he would be my choice;

Big problem with safety being taken at 33. Harris should still be available after Ayers taken at 28, but I would suggest taking Hankerson at 33. Hankerson will be the big, home run hitting receiver we need to make the passing game unstoppable.

Later picks can focus on OL and CB.
