The Pats are not bringing back Corwin Brown.

Given how bad Brandon Meriweather was last year, I can't say that I'm disappointed. Plus, Brown was a freaking Jet.

Interesting, though.

So.... Does this mean that BB will add DB coach to his list of responsibilities?

Soon he will be taking on the equipment manager role, no doubt!

Re: Pats dump DB Coach Corwin Brown

Corwin Brown is most notable for having a name that looks a lot like Connor Barwin

Devin McCourty was amazing last year. If you're blaming Brown for Meriweather, why not praise him for McCourty?

Brown was the Safties' coach not the DB coach. Josh Boyer was the DB/CB coach.

Too bad Rodney has his easy gig @ NBC. I always thought he would go into coaching and be a damn good one. I'd love the sideline shot when BM went freelancing and had to answer to him.

That would be worth the price of one year's salary. Rodney would probably suit up in full gear for practices.

Yeah. The "Pats hire Corwin Brown" thread made me all tingly inside until I realized what it really said

Given that Rodney's been very open about his freelancing in New England, I'd expect such conversations to be about when and where, rather than being about Harrison berating Meriweather just for doing it.

Re: Pats dump DB Coach Corwin Brown

And Arrington!

We had a rookie and a STer playing very well as our corners during 2010. Our defensive backs played reasonably well.

Re: Pats dump DB Coach Corwin Brown

Would love to see Harrison back in NE, he'd show Merriweather how to wrap someone up in a tackle rather than go for the big hit, if Merriweather would learn how to tackle, he'd be on of the top 5 safeties in the league.

Corwin Brown made Meriweather stupid? I don't think so.

There are certain things a coach is responsible for, not overinflated egos from premature Pro Bowl selections.

I see. So you know Meriweather on a personal basis?

Re: Pats dump Defensive Asst/Safety Coach Corwin Brown

Source: Corwin Brown 'Just Wasn't a Good Coach' - New England Patriots - NESN.com

Patriots players were frustrated and annoyed by defensive backs coach Corwin Brown, who was relieved of his duties Tuesday, according to a source.
"He just wasn't a good coach," the source said. "It's not that he wasn't smart. Some guys just don't know how to coach."

Brown was responsible for the safeties during the 2010 season, which was his only year with the Patriots. When he was hired last offseason, many in the New England secondary were excited to work with him because he had experience as a player in Bill Belichick's system.

Brown appeared to be popular -- he dove through the water hose with the rest of the rookies in training camp -- but his ability to coach was questioned almost regularly. He knew the system, but he couldn't teach it.

New England's safeties didn't have a poor year in 2010. Patrick Chung really progressed during his second season, and James Sanders again rose above expectations. Despite the fact that Brandon Meriweather didn't make the leap many had hoped he would, he still earned his second Pro Bowl invitation.

But after hearing from a source, it sounds like Belichick deserves more praise for that progress than Brown.

Wow. That's pretty damning stuff.

Re: Pats dump DB Coach Corwin Brown

Well he does say stuff in the papers. it's in English, I read it.
“I was trying a lot of things in camp, to see if they’d work,” he said. “They wasn’t. Instead of me stopping trying them and doing what I was coached, I kept trying.”

Our defense is not predicated on trying stuff to see if it works. it's built on being where and doing what you're supposed to .

Oh, I was thinking Pro Bowl defensive backs wouldn't bother picking the brain of a stupid player, but maybe I overestimate the intelligence of NFL players generally.

Rodney did quite well "trying stuff to see if it works".
