I feel like he's the only player on the team that doesn't play by the mentality of "do your job." Too often, he's trying to do too much, and ends up failing miserably.

If we could get value back for Meriweather, I wouldn't mind trading him and then drafting a stud like Kenny Tate. Remember we got what like a 2nd plus change for Tebuckey Jones. And Meriweather is just as talented so it could happen. I don't see the Pats opening up the wallet for a safety that isn't an elite player. Meriweather can play good but he's flawed enough that he will never be elite.

This is one crazy thread.

I remember the ravens games , after the hit he laid the entire defense just played mean. Vince came out after the game and said that was the turing point on the defense. After that the game just changed. The ravens could not do anything.

anyway, looks like what people want are just players who play with no attitude in this board and no emotion. Just go out do your job and never get jacked up for playoff anything.

If we trade him i think next will be vince then we can have a team that never gets up for playoffs.Explains why these same people must have hated teams like the 04 Pats which got into a fight pregame with the pathers or the one that smacked the steelers . there fights and trashing talking all game.

At his rookie #'s, he's sure to stay next yr. The question is if he can settle down and play within the system and still make an impact. Otherwise, he's Tebucky Jones with Asante Samuels' mentality.

Exactly- for all the complaining that he's Tebucky Jones 2.0, did Tebucky Jones ever play 90% of defensive snaps while being the tonesetter/enforcer for the entire D? You need some mean guys on your defense, who the other team fears a little bit. It used to be Rodney and Seymour, and now it's Wilfork and Meriweather. If anything, we need more guys like that. I'm still hoping that Chung and Spikes will kind of grow into it, but either way, subtracting Meriweather unnecessarily from the mix would just exacerbate the problem.

TL;DR: I find it strange that a lot of people who criticize the defense for coming out flat in the playoffs also don't want the intense, intimidating guy on the team anymore.

Yea we need him back, if he goes back to 09 form he's one of the best safeties in the league.

Why wouldn't we want one of our best defenders to come back? He's got the best range amongst our safeties, and he hits like a mack truck. I cringed at how Sanders defended that long Cotchery completion in the fourth quarter. He could have minimized that completion to a ten yard gain if he wasn't limited physically like he is.

So yeah, more of Merriweather and less of Sanders. If we insist on having a three man rotation, get Champ Bailey who has expressed his desire to play safety to prolong his career, who would be perfect next to Chung as the deep safety and would allow Merriweather to roam, where he is at his best.

Interesting. Sanders was fifteen yards off Cotchery.....why? You can't expect Mayo to cover a WR. I would love to see Champ Bailey at FS or a combination of coverages. That was the answer play that killed us. Stoned pass rush as well. Good post.

YES! The Big Bang brought FEAR back into the hearts of opposing receivers. Need to have a Gangsta in the defensive backfield. Don't listen to the Deluxe D-Bag nozzles like Felger; this team needs Meriweather.

The beat down of the Ravens was to a team that richly deserved it. I cannot believe the milquetoasts in the media who felt bad for the poor innocent Ravens after the Patriot physically abused them.

BTW did any of you notice the dirty hits by Ray Lewis in their playoff game?

I'm very conflicted. He has so much talent. He has a great knack for finding the ball and making the big play, which sometimes comes at the expense of being out of position on other plays. If he can mature a little he could be in the Ed Reed mold, but thats a big "if." I am not trying to say he is as good as Ed Reed or anywhere near him.

He is the Maroney of our secondary. Exactly the same kind of guy .Maroney probably wont make any roster next year. Meriweather will probably be out of the league within 2 years

Kenny Tate is returning to school for his senior season...

Don't particularly want Meriweather back. He's a decent player, but I have a feeling his market value is higher than his actual worth. I don't want to spend a lot on a safety that hasn't really earned BB's trust in 4 seasons and struggles in coverage. With Chung's emergence, Meriweather definitely becomes expendable. We have some safety depth growing. Combo of Chung/Sanders/McGowan/Page/Rookie &,or FA looks pretty good to me. I used to rag on Sanders a lot, but he's become a pretty decent rotation player on the back end.

If Belichick doesn't trust Meriweather he trusts the other safeties even less, Meriweather played more than any other safety. Getting rid of Meriweather would be taking yet another step backwards.

BM only played more than Chung because of injury. Chung was easily our best safety this past year. And getting rid of BM isn't a step backwards if we want to work on fixing our inability to cover TEs and the middle of the field. Meriweather reminds me too much of Michael Lewis.

Chung is markedly worse in coverage than Meriweather.

I want him back but not as starter. We really need a stud safety. It really helps calm the secondary and makes the QB hesitate just enough to throw off the timing.
