Pats sign new long snapper

Re: Pats sign new long snapper?

Well that's interesting. I can't see the team keeping two long snappers so I would assume Ingram is history. Mesko is going to have a new long snapper and a new kicker that he holds for in the same week.

Re: Pats sign new long snapper?

Katula seems to be an experienced, solid upgrade.

Re: Pats sign new long snapper?

Yes, I noted a one-hopper against the Browns. Mesko is a punter not a shortstop!

If Ingram is departing, best of luck to him.

Welcome aboard Matt Katula!

Who had similar issues to Ingram a year ago. Long snapping is one of those jobs that only get you noticed when you screw up.

Re: Pats sign new long snapper?

Wow, Ingram is one of the most embarrassing draft picks under BB.

Missing on an RB/WR? It happens.

But if you're going to use a DRAFT PICK a long-snapper, he better be damn guaranteed to be the BEST long-snapper available who will contribute to your team for years.

Instead, he's so bad we're actually cutting him.

Re: Pats sign new long snapper?

Thank god, this really needed to happen before they play the jets in a month, if he even has one bad snap that punt is getting blocked. Can't believe I'm saying this but, why didn't they just give Lonnie the extra 500k or w/e it was.

Re: Pats sign new long snapper?

Lonie Paxton should still be a member of the Patriots. Another 2009 mistake has come back to bite the team in the ass.

I don't know, what's the difference? He was a sixth round draft pick. Not sure why cutting a 6th round RB/WR is acceptable but cutting a 6th round specialist is not.

Regardless of position, players drafted that late are no sure thing. The percentage that stick taken that late in the draft has to be fairly low.

Yeh, what a waste of a pick. Should have drafted that kid Suh instead of a bum of a long snapper :bricks:

Are you serious? He was a 6th round pick and he played great last year. BB isn't Nostradamus. He couldn't have predicted so much inconsistency after Ingram played so well in college and his first year as a pro. Get a clue.

Pure Long Snappers are almost never drafted. Maybe one a decade if that.
He simply saying that it damn well be a sure thing if you're going to actually use a draft pick on one. And this is the reason teams don't draft them.

That's true. The sad part is he had a good year last year and as BB mentioned today about Mankins "I am sure it will be better going forward – I hope it will". But with Ingram it's not.

Is it possible he's injured?

Not saying he is, but just wondering if going up against the big DLs might explain it.

Edit: Guess not, since according to the Herald article, Ingram's been cut. Moreover, Katula's been signed to a two-year(!) deal.

Edit 2: Also guess this shows how important BB thinks the LS position is, because he didn't just have Ninkovich LS to save a roster spot.

Well. So The Board has been heard! Awaiting word on the benchings of Brady, Gronkowski, Mayo and Spikes.

Once per decade....

maybe we should have drafted Tyler Schmitt instead.

I'd be curious how many times you heard Ingram's name last year. Chances are twice: Once when he was drafted, and some other random time during the year when they listed rookies on the roster.

He played well last year, proving he CAN do the job. Not only that, it's not like he had some glaring weakness that teams could scout, thus causing his issues. From all indications, he just simply "lost" it. I'm not blaming BB for a fluky turnaround from a sixth round pick, and neither should you.
