Mike Mayock Calls Out Light & Connolly

Mike Mayock, who can never be called a hater, just called out Light and Connolly on NFLN. Says he looked at the tape of the Chargers game, and expected to see that the Chargers scheme was why Brady was pressured so much last Sunday. Instead, he found that a "journeyman" end Antawn Barnes beat Light regularly, and Connolly couldn't block the D tackle, even when helped by a Koppen double team.

Mayock said b/c of these two linemen, the Patriots missed a couple of scoring opportunities. He seemed troubled by what he saw.

I'd have to agree. Light & Connolly have been very good so far up to the SD game IMO. Hopefully this is a one game slide. But, can we give a little credit to Barnes and the SD LBs? They are one of the top rated defenses in the league.

Exactly what I saw. The Bolts won the individual battles in the trenches (particularly on the offensive left and middle) which allowed them to drop 7 into coverage. That allowed them to keep a single safety deep, effectively double Welker and still have 4 players to clutter the passing lanes. Can't have a standard 4-man rush be that successful that quickly. Sunday is a big bounce-back opportunity for the OL.

They should be called out. It wasn't a great performance. I've been one of the ones who thought Connolly has played well, but he, along with Light, certainly put up a stinker in the Chargers game.

Look like Antawn Barnes was too quick for Light and Light never was able to move his feet quick enough to get leverage on Barnes. Barnes got lower and outpowered and outquicked Light. All in the footwork.

Light was beat bad. But that's nothing new. He just doesn't handle the real quick guys that well. Connolly. Well this was one of his worst performances so hopefully he can bounce back. Chargers defense is real talented up front though which was giving our OL issues and thus leading to pressures on Brady and him not finding open guys.

until mankins returns, the pats need to run more two or 3 TE sets and have extra blockers. another thing is that kevin faulk was a great blocker, and while woodhead may get first downs like Kevin, he's not the same in the blocking department.

Whoever was saying this on the radio was blowing smoke out of their astronomy. The only time Allen could have faced Light was 2004. Allen had one sack, against someone on the Pats. In 2005, Allen had another sack against the Pats, but Light was injured and was not active for that game. (I think that was the year BB held Light's spot open on the roster for like 10 weeks). Allen hasn't played against New England since 2005.

Add him to the list of guys with Taylor, Schobel, that he has trouble with. Overall, i think Light is pretty good, he'll have good and bad days.
