Apparently Gostkowski cannot eb counted on for a 50 yard field goal.

All of a sudden, deep snapping was an adventure. Mesko was great.

AND OF COURSE, being asleep on the onside kick was just horrible.

I'm getting tired of Ingram real fast

Definitely not the ST's finest hour.

hey who came around on the last kick and stretched out to just miss the block? great effort there but I am without DVR......

Mesko was awesome today.. No shanks and made the best out of some questionable snaps.. Another great draft pick

Couple of variables BB uses for his decision not to go for the long FG.. Letting Tom and Boys go for it when the kicker is only 50/50 on anything over 45 yards.. It's a smart move, we have a HOF QB and/or solid punter.. & Our defense is coming along..

It was Chung. He ran out of the locker room and insisted he be on that play. Almost had the block too.

It was the right move - Horrible play call though

I haven't rewatched it but it looked like Brown adjusted his feet/path at the last second to avoid the block. I think that is why it was wide right.

It is sad when we pay a kicker as one of the best kickers in the league and he is only expected to be 50% for anything over 45 yards. Top kickers should be 50% from 50 yards.

It was not. It was 27, Kyle Arrington.

I was wondering the same thing... great effort by our special teams.

Anyone know yet: Who was the missle shooting in to block that kick?

Why don't you go do to your local football field and try a 50 yard field goal, then talk to everyone about how "Top Kickers" should be 50% or better from that range.

Also, people seem to forget that a missed 50 yarder gives the oppoents the ball at their 40 yard line. Another reason why BB may not have wanted to go for it at that point.

People forget that we used to bypass 50yd FG's even when his highness Vinateri was here. I don't think BB is worried about Ghostkowski coming through when needed - he's made 13 straight FG's in the 4th quarter and won the game last week.

Our kicker had one bad day, since then he's 9 for 9. YEAH! Let's cut him!!!!!

I thought it was Butler but can believe it if it was actually Arrington. Since Arrington was inserted into the starting lineup, we are 4-0.

What's with all the hatred for Ghost? He went 3 for 3 today, and didn't even get an attempt at anything longer than 40. Though for the record, he's 4 for 6 (66%) from 50 yards or more for his career.

There was only one situation where he could have kicked and the Pats elected to go for it, and that was on the 4th and 1 from the SD 32. It's a 49-yard attempt but they went for it instead and picked up the first down, which led to a huge TD. So I'm confused.

Overall, it was a poor day for the special teams. There were numerous penalties on the punt and kickoff teams, not to mention some poor snaps from Ingram. But I don't get the Ghost thing at all.

there are only 32 kickers in the league. maybe 4-6 others floating around who narrowly got cut or are on the verge of getting resigned to relieve a struggling kicker. Since they rarely get hurt, there is very little turnover.

They play for about 14-20 years so in any given year, there may be 1-2 spots open for rookies.

So with odds akin to being a F-16 pilot in the Navy, I can see why it is a common expectation to nail 50 yarders. But I mental issues, wind, and turf conditions, not to mention missiles like Patrick Chung, lower this percentage precipitously.

In the case of Ghost, he has done everything he has been asked to do since he was drafted and I def. understand the decision today on the 4th and 2 or whatever (which they converted) but the SB against the Giants was troublesome to swallow because it was 4th and long. We know he has a leg (based on touchbacks from him killing the kickoffs) but that is off the tee.

Me too I am trying to figure out when in this game did we even have a chance for a 50+ yarder.

the OP i can only assume is talking about the 4th and 1 at the end of the game, where we went and did not get it

unfortunately teh OP was also not paying attention, because the line of scrimmage was around the 50 in that play, which would have made it a 67 yd FG????

the OP is right, cmon BB, 67 yd FG? its a cheap shot....

That has to be it because they had no other drives which they would have had the chance.

If we are going to talk about special teams, then what about our LS Jake Ingram? One bad snap is one thing, but at what point do you question his productivity and performance?
