No Respect: Patriots Ranked Behind The Ravens Despite Beating Them Sunday

Let them keep banging that drum. I really never liked being the "Best team in the league" all through the regular season.

Thats' an October 12th -- i.e. pre-game -- ranking.

Oh ... well, still makes no sense, and you'd have to have been pretty high making these rankings just off the loss of moss. However, this is more like 'shrooms high than 3 tab acid high, ha ha. It'll be interesting to see how these change with the next update ... and maybe some rehab.

People are getting a bit carried away by this win.

Firstly and most importantly the Patriots were at home after a bye week on Sunday. Thats a huge advantage to have over any team.

Secondly it was very hard for the Ravens to prepare their defense for this game. They had to do a lot more guessing as to what the Patriots would do than is normal for a team because of the trade of Moss and getting Branch.

I expected us to win Sunday but it doesn't mean we are suddenly all that. We are a good team but there are big tests down the road where teams will have a better idea what to prepare for.

While the performances of Woodhead, Branch and our Run D are things to be very excited about its a long road yet. Over the next five weeks the Patriots have to go to San Diego and Pittsburgh and face the Vikings and Colts at Gillette with a trip to Cleveland thrown in the middle of it. We will know exactly where this team is at after those games.

Most of you think that we should be rated higher than BALT because we beat in overtime at home. Home field should be considered to be worth something. I think that the teams wwere about equal yesterday on our turf.

I would rate us 4th at this point, especially with Ed Reed coming off PUP. The only ratings that I look at (other than the standings) are ESPN's which will be out tomorrow.

It is sort of interesting that so many here are interested in the pregame ratings.

This is a big part of why I prefer the NFL to college football. In the pros you are what you are, it's not up to a bunch of different guys all over the country to decide whether or not you make the playoffs, etc.

Can you imagine if the NFL worked like the BCS? The Pats never would have made it to Super Bowl XXXVI. Probably not any Super Bowl.

Yep....Its all about how you do in December...but you gotta love the learning curve/ path these guys are on....:rocker::rocker::rocker:

old article.

Pats better be 3 or 4

I love the media and how they climb on and off of Pat's ****

I couldnt agree more, I hope we're picked to lose every big game the rest of the year and into the playoffs.

Flat out wrong call. Should be (much as I hate to admit).

1) Pitt

2) Jesters

3) Pats

4) Baltimore

Why should the jets be above Baltimore?

Yove got 3 good teams here, who have beat each other. The only reason to rank one above the other, is that Baltimore has beat Pitt. Baltimore has also lost to cleveland, but its certainly a defensable call.

IDC. We play better and get better results under the radar. Last years this ''experts'' said that Bellichick team is gonna be outstanding in PO and we lost . They are afraid of Bellichick owning him one more

No they didn't. Their other loss was to the Bengals. They gave up huge yardage to Petyon Hillis in the game against the Browns but they won it by 7 iirc.

Don't care...Top 5 or top 3....

Just keep on improving the Defense and integrating Woodhead and Branch into the Offense....and WIN

We'll know how good this team really is in December.....

Power rankings are nonsense, of course, fun for a read like a horoscope might be.

Having said that, the only value to them is if the Pats are ranked LOW. And the media DOESN'T include them in conversations about "elite" teams. The disrespect card seems to always work 90% of the time.

My bad. Typo.

Still, they have just as much claim to the top of the list because of beating the Jets and Pittsburgh as we do.

Power rankings are meaningless. Now if this were college football they'd actually mean something but it ain't. NFL is about wins and losses. We have a playoff system. In the end the strongest and fittest teams will survive. Everything else is just window dressing.

I respect the team they've assembled there in Baltimore but they ain't better than us if they got beat by us. That's just common sense. For example, they didn't award the Rams the Superbowl trophy for losing to the Pats.
Although this is what the mediots would rather have happen. But that ain't how the hardware is awarded and I am sure glad the NFL postseason isn't governed by some stupid poll. Some reporters obviously are stuck in college mode thinking when assessing the teams for this 'power ranking'. That kind of thinking don't fly in the pros. Luckily it has zero actual impact so let them have their meaningless fun. It just gives BB another disrespect card to pull out before gametime.

Who cares what the "experts" blab about the main thing is that they won. Let them all disrespect the Pats and Bill will play that card for the rest of the season.
