Hernandez drops

You don't think catching a ball thrown too low, on your knees, with Ray Lewis about 2 yards behind you is a tough catch?

It should have been caught, but it was a poorly thrown ball.

Didn't know he wore the numbers 8 and 5 on each knee.

I've pointed out that Brady threw several bad short throws today. That wasn't one of them.

One drop and a drop in his first NFL overtime game.

I'm not worried.

One game aberrations aren't a huge issue, its when they become systemic that you have to worry. For example, the Saints losing to the Cards last week especially considering the Cards scored zero offensive points would be a very very worrying stat for the Saints if it continued. Let's give it a week before we worry about his drops this game.

How many rookies dont pull the "look where to go before the ball is there" trick? Hell I'm pretty sure I remember moss doing that a few weeks ago. easily fixable.

I was concerned insofar as I knew that he wasn't going to be a factor in OT after those drops (by virtue of not having any more snaps/balls thrown his way). He's a great weapon. No overarching concerns for me.

To the people who thought he was smoking the reefer, I actually thought it might have been some nerves. Some reefer would have fixed that? :confused2:

Lest no one forget that Kevin Faulk was a notorious fumbler early in his career...

...Hernandez will be fine. The good thing is he's open enough to have a chance to catch the ball. As long as he doesn't lose Brady's confidence in him -- and lord knows Brady has put up with a lot worse -- things are looking good.

Randy Moss was dropping the ball as much or more than that this year.

Hernandez is known for his hands and he puts extra time into that at practice.

part of it could be teams are throwing different things at him now and his mind is sometimes over clocked ... he'll be fine and for a rookie he gets an A+ from me.

Welker dropped an easy ball, so did Crumpler

It happens, they'll work on it and he'll get better, most important things is he shakes it off and doesnt dwell on it.

Brady knows full well this kid is his Dallas Clark and he'll make sure they get it sorted and his head and hands are right

If he was the type of player who thought about himself too much, then I would be worried!

But Hernz has heart, talent and brains! And will improve on his little mistakes!

I'll repeat what everyone else said: He is not just a rookie, but he is literally the YOUNGEST PLAYER IN THE NFL.

Let that one sink in a bit.

Tick...tick...tick...

O.K. -- I mulled it over, and decided that age has nothing to do with the OP's concern, as it's common for veteran receivers to also lack focus on occasion. I doubt Hernandez needs to be re-taught one of the basic principles of pass catching.

Once you drop that first one, it gets in your head then you get the second drop as a result. He was just trying to to do to much after the catch and make a big play. It almost sunk us but Im ok with it...this time.

Perfectly thrown ball. Hot him right under the rib cage, nowhere near his knees.

I was more worried about the fact he was laughing after he dropped the first one. I thought maybe he was trying to play it off, they show him on the sideline...still laughing:bricks:

After the 2nd drop the look on his face made me feel better, he knew Brady was gonna let him hear it.

He wasn't laughing, it was a look of anguish.

I think we're going to see a few more drops like that from Hernandez this year, and people will be complaining. People already seem to have forgotten that he dropped two really makeable TD passes in the end zone in tight spaces. That being said, I agree with those who are not concerned with the long term future. One spring working with the JUGS machine will take care of all of these problems.

More concerning for me is that Brady will stop looking for him late in tight games.

Dude, the guy was probably off puking in the corner during the 2 minute warning. He's a rookie acting as a major contributor in a very tight, very competitive game. I'm surprised he didn't spontaneously combust!

Seriously, the only concern I have over this is that he doesn't beat himself up over it such that he develops a mental issue. Threads like this aren't too helpful in that respect. Let it go.

Thats because he was on his knees trying to catch it.

Except of course he was standing up.

Otherwise, if he were on his knees, he wouldn't have turned his head and tried to run with the ball. Unless of course he were playing basement football.

That was the first drop.

The 2nd one he was on his knees.

I don't know about everyone else but it's easy for young players to get tensed up in critical big game situations. OT in a BIG division standing game at home. Not everyone has the innate ability to be calm and focused in these pressure situations. Hopefully he can learn from this, focus and work harder with support from his coaches.

We have young guys on offense and defense who are going to disappoint on occasion. Thankfully such developmental errors have not cost us in our 4-1 standings. Let it continue to be so as these talents develop and mature.

I had forgotten about his end-zone drops, and those it is harder to make the excuse that he was looking downfield.

Overally, I think we have an amazing young rookie on our hands that might need a little experience and time for the high pressure situations (e.g., red zone, overtime). My hunch is he and Gronkowski will be monsters for a long time to come.

To the person that said he was laughing, I don't know what game you were watching. He was really pissed at himself. The second one I just felt bad for him, he didn't even get mad it was like he was instantly just dejected not even angry. That worries me more, frankly. I really hope that some of the vets take note and do some work with him psychologically to make sure it doesn't become some weird self-fulfilling prophecy. I know that is worst-case unlikely scenario, but rookies early in their career can be extremely affected by mishaps (e.g., early fumbles in a RBs career can make them timid for years).

Anyway, I don't mean to sound like Chicken Little on this guy: I love him, he gets some great yards AC, and he is young and moldable, and hopefully BB and friends will give him a little extra lovin' this week in a nonsexual way.

If I didn't already have a Welker jersey, I'd look for a Hernandez jersey. I really like this guy, so last night I felt awful because he looked so pissed. Let's hope he uses it to wear his hands out in practice this week on drills.

Brady threw an INT and some of his throws were off target. Should we be worried? I think not. opcorn:
