The inside LB play today was clearly the best we have seen in a long time. Mayo and Spikes combined for a ridiculous 32 tackles

Mayo - 18 Total - 11 Solo
Spikes - 14 Total - 8 Solo

That's insane.

They destroyed Rice up the middle, what a performance. The only plays they really had on us were play they bounced outside.

Terrific tackling by Spikes.....most of them just after the LOS

Big Kudos to Dane Fletcher as well.

Played well in the Nickel package as well.

Exactly, this kid deserves mentioning. Maybe we have found us a valuable coverage LB?

this group of linebackers is going to be amazing. Cunningham pushing the pocket all the time ever Crable at the end flushing Flacco out toward the end too.

This D is going to be scary good for a few more years

The most impressive number for mine is 2.9. That's the average yards per rushing play the Ravens got.

Rice: 3.1 yards per carry. Good stuff.

That is amazing to have 32 tackles among the inside linebackers.

I saw Spikes all over the backfield, there were probably 5 tackles that he didn't get credit for but blew up the Ravens play from behind the line of scrimmage.

Yes, the goal this game was to stop their running game, and these LB's stepped up to do just that

And to think of how much crap I got when I said that Mayo was a better overall ILB right now than Ray Lewis. He and Spikes completely controlled the middle against the run today.

Spikes has exceeded all expectations, and Mayo looks amazing out there. He really must have been injured badly last season because the difference is night and day.

It's not just the amount of tackles, it's where they were. Mayo and Spikes were constantly meeting Rice at our just beyond the LOS.

Mayo has been spectacular so far this year. You can see why they drafted him.

Dane played an amazing game, especially in pass coverage. What he did won't show up on the stat line, but he was awesome today.

He would have done if they weren't incompletions! He seemed to be right there waiting!

BritPat hit the nail on the head. Mayo was hard to see because he was in the middle of the mess meeting Rice head on 1 or 2 yards past the LOS.

Why thank you kind sir.

It was just so obvious though, you'd see Rice take the hand off, the lines merge, the play stop, the bodies would move - and there underneath would be Mayo with his arms round Rice's legs for a 2 yards gain. Half the time, Mayo was moving to the exact gap Rice ended up hitting before the actual snap. His play recognition seems to have come on leaps and bounds.

I would love to hear Jays or one of the other more analytical minds watch that back and run through some of those plays. The run defense was just monstrous.

I remember a thread earlier right before the season where people were saying Mayo wouldn't become a playmaker. Weeks later, it looks as if he may prove a lot of us wrong. He's in the middle of everything and is beginning to make more plays in the hole. Those may eventually become plays being made in the backfield. It is exciting to think of where the D could be as soon as the last 1/3 of THIS season.

I think playing against their idol probably had them pumped up. I hate Ray Lewis, but let's face it, he's one of the greatest ILB's ever. And I'm sure Mayo and Spikes idolized him. They both outplayed their idol today.
