Pats/Ravens Expert picks

this is the first week of the season I get to use my handy dandy spread calculator. I use it as a tool to decide on who to pick each week against the spread (solely for entertainment purposes of course). It is based on the last 4 games each team has played so this is the first week it gets to work with a full set of data.

But it has the Pats winning:

Pats: 28
Ravens: 20.3

I don't know Kontra...are you thinking that Spikes is that much better than McClain that it makes up for Lewis vs. Mayo (advantage Lewis)? Or are you looking at Guyton/Mayo/Spikes/White vs. Lewis/McClain/Gooden/Ellerbee/Phillips?

At this point, I'd take Mayo over Lewis. As for your other questions, I'm kind of underwhelmed when it comes to McClain and, yes, I'm looking at the entire ILB corps and not just the two primary starters.

Everyone's picking against the pats.Pats can basically shut the damn critics once again with a nice performance and the W.

Because Mayo has more years left or because you think that Lewis' performance has diminished?

Both. At this point, I think Mayo is the better overall player between the two. Youth definitely has something to do with that.

I know I'm a guest here and should be seen and not heard but,
Bwahahahahaha!!!!!!

At this point, it's not that controversial of a stance.

Not to take anything away from Ray. He might be the best to ever play the position, IMO.

Lewis is definitely a top candidate of best ILB of all time. Don't get me wrong. The man was absolutely an unstoppable force in his day. But he's older now and has definitely lost a few steps. Mayo can do everything that he can and is more reliable over the middle in coverage than Ray Ray is at this point. As a matter of fact, the only thing that I would give to Ray Ray over Mayo at this point in time is his ability to shoot the gap. And I say that with the disclaimer that I would like to see how well Mayo would be able to shoot the gap in the Ravens system as opposed to the Patriots system.

Don't think Mayo is quite in the same class as Lewis.

Mayo can only hurt an offense.

But Ray's a killer.

Lewis has noticeably slowed down this season. He tries to make up for it by hitting harder.. if that's possible.

Yet he has a game clinching interception followed by one sack with 36 solo tackles.

Ray is still Ray....

I take it you haven't seen what constitutes a tackle or a sack for Ray Lewis? Mayo has 5 more solo tackles and 7 more tackles in 1 less game than Lewis in a defense that is only starting to find it's feet.

I'll take Mayo thanks. Far more upside on his behalf but as you've said Ray is Ray.

This isn't about upside. Ray Lewis is a Quarterback of their defense. The motivation he brings to his team is greater than anything Mayo can do.

Everyone seems to forget that the Pats beat the Ravens last year too.
Except for the play off lose the Pats are Five and Zero against the Ravens. Like they say don't bet against a streak.

Quarterback of their defense = whatever. The underlying fact is that Jerod Mayo has made more plays in one less game than Ray Lewis has in 2010.

I'll take production over the perception of performance and accrued worth.

Mayo 2010 > Lewis 2010 through round 5.

And in a defense that's less aggressive than the Ravens defense, no less. Nobody's taking anything away from Lewis. He's still a great LB. I just feel that Mayo has surpassed him in terms of his play on field and is more of a complete ILB at this point.

Given TB = TD's inability to reference correct material, it's an exercise in futility presenting an argument based on fact rather than opinion.

Career = Lewis > Mayo
Y2010 = Mayo > Lewis

Quarterback of their defense=reads coverages calls defensive audibles and directs traffic. Jerod Mayo has not effected a game based on one tackle.{See hit on Dustin Keller} Or clinched a game with an interception. With a sport filled with emotions there is no one better at channeling them.
