Schefter: Branch to New England for 4th round pick

Let's see.........we could have had Bolden (I predict at least 7 catches for him and one TD Sunday. Oh by the way.....WASN'T HE A FOURTH ROUNDER TO THE CARDS FOR THE RAVENS????? Branch or Bolden, Branch or Bolden? Tough choice? Major F.O. FAIL!

How about Santonio Holmes for a fifth? Brandon Jackson nobody here wanted. He only caught five on us with a very inconsistent QB....the shame of it all. Bet he still winds up leading the league in receptions in 2010.

How about the other Seahawk receiver who got away...T.J. Instead of Branch? No brainer.

If Moss was not in our future, they should have dumped him and taken T.O. for a couple years. Yep T.O. is way better than Branch. He has been a pretty good soldier the last couple years.

Well we now have three wide receivers under 5'10" (please don't give me any crap that it does not make a difference) and by the way again, I hope Gronk can do some deep fly patterns. Welker did benefit from Moss. How will peg leg Mr. "The Pats suck I am bustin out!" Branch help. They must be building a camp fire in Foxboro so before practice BB can introduce Branch again and lead them in a "Kumbayah" sing around.

Moss has 4 TD's for 2010 already. He had 13 last year in an off-year for Brady. Tell me if DB is going to do 9 TD's to at least break even? Nyet! So Felger and Borges and the rest of the idiots who say Moss was not a major positive factor in our offense, go pound sand. You got your wish. You little smurf guy WR is now home. Moss was supposedly Team disruptive but yet Branch craps on the Pats and he comes back for a forth rounder with one good leg? Nice job F.O. Yea!

It appears we have a big mess in aisle 42.

Please send help.

Quick note on Branch to NE trade - SEA gets whichever of Pats 2 4th rd picks is highest (Pats have DEN's pick from Maroney deal)...

So, probably the Denver/Maroney pick.

For all the whining about the compensation - Is Branch worth a 4th rounder in this past offseason? No.

Is he worth it a few days before the trade deadline with us in a slight jam because we dealt Moss? I say yes.

And anyway, sometimes it is ok to overpay a little to shore up your team.

It is clear to me that Brady made Branch what he was, so there is a good chance that Branch rebounds from some bad years in seattle. Will he be as good as Moss? I doubt it, but I think he will be solid and gives us some veteran depth. It was a logical choice IMO.

Clearly Bill did this just to keep the armchair geniuses in the peanut gallery who know way more about this stuff that he and Tommy do spinning their squeaky wheels... I mean what possible logic could there be in trading away a pick in the 100 range in a shallow draft for a player who knows the system well enough to snag a superbowl MVP and who was desperate to get the hell away from a west coast offense being run by the corpse of Matt Hasselback and back to the sight adjusted offense run by his HOF mentors so he can salvage the remainder of his career... You'd think we had 6 picks above the 100 to play with or something...

If it was up to you Mo no one here would have any opinions at all

But what is a 4th round pick really. Even if he is done, it's a 4th round pick. Worth a shot.

The great social scientist (i.e. comedian) Larry Miller once talked about people who get married, get divorced, and then marry each other again: "That's like finding sour milk in your fridge and saying, 'Well, maybe if I put it back in the fridge for a few days...'"

I know a couple who would strongly disagree with Larry Milier on that point.

Their first date was the 7th grade valentine dance. They went steady all through high school and college and got married a month after college.

She had gone on ONE date with someone else when they had a week long fight they had in college. He never had single date other than her.

After less than a year of marriage, they were separated. Shortly after that divorced.

After 3 years of being apart they saw each other at a mutual friends wedding. At the wedding they confessed to each other that the divorce was the biggest mistake of their lives and that the grass is most certainly not greener.

They got remarried 3 months later.

They recently celebrated their 15th second wedding anniversary. They have huge sign in their kitchen that say, "the grass ain't greener." They regret having gotten divorced but say it was an inevitable result of having never dated other people before marriage.

Point being, sometimes you don't know how good you got it until things change.

It is entirely possible that Branch regrets forcing the trade in the first place and will have a renewed desire to do anything possible to remain a Patriot. It is entirely possible that Brady regrets replacing a dependable very good WR who comes up big in the playoffs, for a great but temperamental one that disappears in the playoffs.

Glad to have him back, don't expect much out of him.

its obvious that BB doesn't place the same value on a 4th round pick that the arm chair GM's here do, not that, that is right or wrong, it jus is. Parcells I believe said "anything after the 2nd round was a crap shoot in the draft" and perhaps that is the perspective that BB is coming from.

Bottomline the Pats had 2 4th rounders which can not help them shore up the WR corp now unless you give up one for a player that can help you now. We can debate until the cows come home is he worth a 4th, 5th, 6th, or 7th but again that is opinion and nobody is right or wrong because that is their opinion of his worth, obviously BB's is a 4th rounder and since he runs the show, his opinion is the only one that really counts.

Boldin was traded for a 3rd and 4th rounder. They also gave him a 3 Yr/$25M contract extension. I don't know if that is quite the same thing.

So, probably the Denver/Maroney pick.

This trade just keeps on getting better.

So we get Branch for a 4th round pick and Baltimore gets Bolden for a 4th rounder?

Deion Branch was invisible in 50% of the playoff games he played for us, and he's not replacing Moss.

Get your facts straight. It was Boldin and a 5th for the Ravens 3rd and 4th round picks.

Not a big fan of the move.Cant believe we gave up a 4th round pick.I dont expect much as well.

Deion Branch was invisible in 50% of the playoff games he played for us, and he's not replacing Moss.

I guess that's better than Moss's playoff success rate

Why the hell would the Seahawks trade him if he's (finally) been effective and healthy? They're right in the thick of the hunt of a terrible division. Carroll wouldn't give up a guy who has a lot left for a 4th at this point would he?

Carroll just got rid of the Housh as well. He likes Mike Williams and the young guys they have there.

It's not a tangible skill.

Exactly, it's an intangible one... This team won three rings based on a lot of players whose intangible skills clearly outstripped their measurable or tangible skills. That's why championship teambuilding is as much art as science. Otherwise guys like Snyder and Jones and Paul Allen and AJ Smith and Woody Johnson and Zigi Wulf would have a collection of rings.

Just saying. Moss came up small in the playoffs while he was here.

We can pretty much forget about 09 playoffs, but he did far more in his 2 'bad' games of 07 than Branch did in his 2 'bad' games of 03. The defenses were far far more focused on stopping Moss in 07 than they were of stopping Branch in 03.

But again, it's not a tangible skill which was my point.
