Curran: Pats looking into Vincent Jackson

1/4 of the way through the season we're getting into "Why Bother?" territory. Why give SD draft picks when we can just sign him in the offseason (provided he reports by week 10 or whatever, blah blah)? Why not use the draft picks either now or during the draft to trade for guys we want, draft guys we want, or spin a couple into a 2012 first and second rounder?

Because Brady is 33 years old and the bedtime opportunity to win with him will be in the next 2-3 years, and you won't get there with 2012 picks.

And Jackson is young.

We are better off competing with our roster and drafting, branch is finished.

Maybe. You may well be right.

I haven't seen Branch play much at all since he left. With his injury troubles I can certainly see why it might not be a great idea.

I don't want Branch unless Seattle gives us a 3rd round pick to take him. I'd do VJ for a 3rd OR VJ for Mankins, but not both. Realistically a fair price for VJ is a 3rd round pick if you look at the Randy Moss deal from a couple of years ago. Pats gave up a 4th, but it was a steal and there were age concerns w/ Moss.

Do the Pats win their last 2 superbowls without Corey Dillon? I say no way. Let's keep that in mind.

Bauer is a moron.

I wouldnt believe anything his agent says, in fact, Id probably believe the opposite, hes a known liar.

Well they definitely win the second to last without him considering he wasn't on the team for that one

Corey Dillon played for the Pats in 03?

What makes the trade possibility ludicrous? I have no idea if either team would want the other player, but why wouldn't the agent for both players want to try to engineer a move that might get his players signed.

the way it sounds to me is he still would have to sit 3 games once he's even on a team or his team. i don't know all the details to that but suffice to say would he be on the field before or after game #8?

I would say exactly game 8, but let's face it we still make the playoffs so it could be that extra ammo.

I don't believe that BB would take a chance on Jackson. i'll donate $100 dollars to Migel's sisters pantry if they sign him

SanDiego does not need another guard. They are set there. Unless Mankins can play Tackle like a ProBowl, SanDiego don't want Mankins.

What they want is 1st-round AND 2nd-round in 2011/2012.

Way too much for BillB to give. 2011 Draft has STUDS (RB, WR, DE) and likely has salary-caps for rookies.

Maybe BillB can negotiate down to 2nd-round 2011 & 2nd-round 2012??

Remember Chargers NEEDS to get rid of Jackson (Jackson will sign in 10th wk). He will be a unrestricted free-agent next year..

just read that Rapoport article.....Mankins' agent sounds like a real azzhat, and a complete moron....no wonder contract negotiations went south.

Honestly, does this guy fail to realize his client would be better off, if something like this were to take place, and he should be encouraging it? Instead, he actually pokes at the Patriots.

for what it's worth:

Ron Borges says he talked to Branch's agent and there's nothing to report.

Ron also went on to say Vincent Jackson is way over rated ... a good WR but nowhere comparable to Moss.

Here's a few grains of salt.

. . . .

It's kind of funny as the Mankins camp acts like the joke is on everyone else when it's actually on them. I am one of those fans that tends to give the player the benefit of the doubt in our situation as I really don't care for the Krafts, but it's hard to feel sorry for the Mankins based on the antics of him and his agent.

Article updated

[Updated at 10:55 p.m.: Curran has added to his post that the Chargers aren’t interested in Mankins. While the San Diego Union-Tribune reports a Pats deal for Jackson is unlikely.]

Did he say anything about they shouldn't sign Jackson because his parents died of diabetes in their late forties?
