Moss is going to a team where the QB doesn't listen to the coaches and he's been directly responsible for his team being kicked from the play-offs every time his team got there for the last 7 years.

Report: Growing tension between Brett Favre and Brad Childress | ProFootballTalk.com

I'm going on the record to say that Moss has just made the worst mistake of his career by asking for a trade from a team where he was truly happy for a period of time before his insecurity got the better of him.

It should be very interesting to see what our cap number looks like when they set a cap for 2011.
With all of the young players we have in their rookie contracts, there should be a lot of room to get back into the Free Agency market that keeping our own players held us back from for the last 5-7 years.
Not that we will go make crazy moves, but BB should be able to go out and find the guys he wants and afford them.

Yeah, we'll have a window, then in a few years all these guys that are bums now will be indispensable, and we'll have to go through some tough decisions again.

I'm enjoying this season because I can't remember as young a team as this. I'm old enough to, I'm sure, but i just can't remember (probably mostly from being old).

All I care about is solid disciplined play. As we've seen, the athleticism is though the roof, so we will make spectacular plays. Hopefully discipline will come late in the season.

I've been an O'Brien basher, so maybe we'll see that it just wasn't possible to be balance with Moss and Brady naturally looking for him. Let's face it, every QB wants to fire away at a receiver like Moss, so we'll see if we get some creative play calling and balance.

If anybody gets the idea i think I know what I'm talking about, believe me i don't, so we'll see.

letting branch get away probably cost them the superbowl in 06...

Yeah, it's Deion Branch's fault we gave up 38 points in the AFC Championship game.

Don't forget Slater, he may still surprise us as a deep threat.

How many receptions does Slater have in the NFL? How many receptions does Slater have from his UCLA days?

Did you ever consider that game would have been in NE if Branch had played that year? You think Indy puts up 38 outside in January?

We lost a tiebreaker to Indy for the 3 seed both at 12-4.

The essential problem her is, there is never a game or a season that isn't a must win!!!!

Ever. So we give Samuel the 80 million dollar contract and Mankins the 70 Million dollar deal and Moss the 100 million dollar deal til he's 40 and Branch the 75 million dollar deal, even though he was a traitor and held us hostage.

Now Bradys contract comes up. and we want to sign our 20 first and second year players. and forget negotiating, everybody demands a new contract right before their last season, knowing we'll fold, so we never know who we can really expect to honor their contracts.

then you have the detroit Lions as we sink to the bottom of the league and use our annual 1st in the league draft on another receiver because we have to!! brady's window is closing!!! Draft another bust receiver, there's no other choice.

Somebody needs to stay calm and make tough decisions. Moss was not focused on football, he was a distraction. All he wanted was a contract. If we hadn't had panicky Favre and Childress, we would have simply cut him, because the team needs to stay focused and Moss needs to do what he needs to, to avoid ending up old or injured due to the possible lockout.

Sometimes people's needs diverge and that's what happened this year with our team and Randy.

Now we're 3-1 coming off a huge win, with a very young team and a bye week to start building the next champion, so buck up.

:rocker:

Always with the negative waves. Why can't you say something righteous and beautiful?

No one who Belichick cuts or trades has done better when they went elsewhere.

Not always true.

Terry Glenn - Resurrected his career in Dallas, including two seasons in 2005 and 2006 that rival anything he did with New England (aside from his brilliant rookie season, of course).

Drew Bledsoe - His first season in Buffalo put him back in Pro Bowl form for the first time since 1997. His performance did drop considerably after that, but still.

Adam Vinatieri - Helped the Colts win a Super Bowl, providing a major upgrade from Mike Vanderjagt (the anti-clutch).

Asante Samuel - Two consecutive Pro Bowl appearances with the Eagles (didn't deserve it in 2008 though)

Dave Thomas - More catches and receiving yards in 2009 than his three combined seasons in New England. Also got a ring with New Orleans.

Andre' Davis - Found his niche as a kick returner for the Texans.

Jabar Gaffney - Career-best season statistically with Denver last season.

Kelley Washington - Career-best season statistically with Baltimore last season.

Joey Galloway - Being facetious here, though he does already have more receiving yards this season with Washington than he did with New England last season.

Dan Klecko, Heath Evans, and Randall Gay are some players who, while not necessarily as productive as with the Pats, got rings after leaving New England. But that's bound to happen with the law of averages.

I will concede, though, that the Pats are more often right than wrong when they cut ties with a player, and that was the point of this thread.

Wonder how long the love will last in Minni. Favre is clearly losing his skills and his accuracy. Will Moss pout when the ball doesn't come his way or Favre throws his standard 3 picks per game?

Lee Evans wants out of Buffalo. (of course they are paying him 9 mill a season to be a decoy cuz Trent Edwards wouldn't throw the ball downfield and now Fitzpatrick is ignoring him). Wonder if Evans would like to play for a winning franchise for less money.....hmm

looking toward the future, the pats are going to be pretty damned young for the next few years.

my belief that BB aside, the rest of the coaching staff is simply not geared towards developing that much youth.

you can't be grooming coaches and players at the same time.....its one thing to have mcdaniels cut his teeth with the guys available to him. He would not have had the same kind of success if he had to deal with rookies and 2nd year guys.

I believe in order for this team to be more successful in the future, they need to bring in some more accomplished guys. nobody achieves it 'alone'. it is, after all THE ultimate team sport

Only a blind homer (I am being nice here) would actually think the Branch trade did not hurt us. We were one catch away from the Superbowl which we would have won against the Bears with a lousy excuse for a number one receiver. With Branch, we would have won. I just hope that scenario will not repeat itself because I would never forgive him. Back in 2006, Brady was young and so we had time. That is no longer the case.

The miscommunication between Troy and Brady at the end of the AFCCG cost us the Super Bowl. Considering Brach's penchant for getting hurt; anything beyond is that is speculative nonsense.

I don't think so but we won't be in CAP hell like others. All this was to get under the hypothetical lower CAP and that BB has budgeted to meet.

I always thought the defensive meltdown in the second half cost us that game. (Not to mention a hot dome and a pretty good QB).

Moving along ... business is business. I believe the Pats actually have a mission statement that mentions being competitive every year. Let's face it, even "down" years here have lived up to that.

This whole post was beautiful, but I wanted to single out this line. This point is lost on so many people, that precedent is one of the most dangerous things you can set in these situations. Anyone who has ever had to manage any group of employees knows, if you give in to the demands of one of them, word is going to permeate throughout the team, and you're either going to A) have to give in on every similar demand, or B) you're going to lose the respect of your team because you're "playing favorites" and they're not going to work as well for you.

And that's in a normal workplace scenario, where those decisions are often meant to be confidential (but leak out anyway). In sports, you bending to the will of a player is instantly known throughout the country and EVERY NFL player now knows they can make you do this.
