McCourty - he'll start on lots of special teams, and probably dime back

TWO WHO COULD HAVE AN IMMEDIATE IMPACT
Hernandez - #2 TE and h-back, could get lots of reps
Cunningham - could be a starter or devlopmental player with few reps

ONE DEVELOPMENTAL PLAYER WHO WILL MAKE THE ROSTER
Price - competing with Tate to be the #4 wide receiver

We drafted 2 developmental OL's, 2 developmental DL's and a developmental QB.
Personally, I think a couple have solid chance at the 53.

Deaderick - He is a solid 3-4 DE prospect. We'll see where he is in his development.
I think he is 3rd or 4th round quality in other years.
Larsen - probably has a better chance than Orhnberger or Connolly to be the center of
the future (could be worth a roster spot)
Welch - Does he have a higher upside than LeVoir?
Weston - Practice Team player
Robinson - 4th arm for camp, perhaps a Practice Squad player, perhaps not

On EEI today, Belichick said that he was really surprised both Larsen and Welch were available in the 6th round. Said they had a higher grade on them then some of the players they've historically drafted in the 4th - naming 2007 specifically. That's quite a lot of specifics for BB. So maybe both of these OL make the roster. And I think Deaderick has a great chance of making the roster (for a 7th rounder). So we could end up with 20+ guys from the past 2 drafts on the 53 man roster.

Sounds like BB may try to pick up a couple sevenths in preseason by trading guys like Wendell to KC and Denver.

Considering most people felt a little disappointed after Rd 1, I am over the moon with the outcome of this draft. The extra picks we were able to pick up makes next years draft exciting already. The only down side of the entire 2010 draft was the Raiders making some excellent pick ups in Rds 1-3 and trading for Campbell at QB. I'm expecting the pick we got from them to be in the 10-15 range now, rather then potentially a top 5 pick before they made such shrew pick ups.

I think you underestimate McCourty's impact. Believe me MG. he will be the nickel back at WORST, and IMHO the CB opposite Boddin from game one (with Butler as the starting nickel)

OTOH, I think you over estimate the impact of Spikes - First I think McKenzie will have something to say about Spikes playing time. Secondly, even if he is the starter, IMO the position of run stopping ILB has less impact than, say, the nickel back. If the run stopping ILB does his job properly, he'll only be on the field for 1 down each series.

I wouldn't be surprised, it suits their skillsets. Having Butler as a nickel would be tremendous.

For the others, I'd bet on Deaderick and Larsen to both make the 53. Larsen is a better-looking prospect than Koppen was coming out of college. He's inexperienced, but promising enough that he's worth a year on the inactive list. And Deaderick, if he comes in with the right attitude, could slip into the rotation at RDE.

This makes me wonder why they didn't trade some of next year's draft into this year's. Perhaps they tried and failed but I think the year to be stockpiling was this one. Next year with the rookie cap we should be looking to trade up for a blue chip prospect.

Bakes, aren't you contradicting yourself a little? How can we trade up in 2011 if we've already traded our ammo in that draft ahead into this year?

While I imagine lots of teams will have the same idea of trading up, it's clear the Pats have already stockpiled for next year. So I don't think losing a 5th or 6th from next year would hurt those odds of trading up significantly.

This year more than any I can remember there were lots of undrafted prospects that I wanted. I can't imagine that will be the case a year from now.

Add me to the list. I expected him to be drafted in the 5-6 round range and I expect him to make the team.

I suppose there is only so much rookie talent you can being into the team. This seems probably the right amount. Any more and you risk the locker room having something of an identity crisis.

Like I've said. they all seem good quality hard working blokes.

Lets hope it all works out.

"Pedigrees?" Well, Richard was also a 7th-round pick, and in a less deep draft. Warren was a 1st round pick 9 years ago, but has spent his career getting bounced around from team to team for progressively lower compensation until the Pats picked him up off the street in late April. Lewis I like -- but even with him, there are only 3 DEs on the roster. Do you really think that position is so stacked that a natural 5-technique pre-trained by Nick Saban has no chance?

That's easy. First he makes plays on ST to get noticed. Dead wont play ST.
Second the starting slot reciever(Welker) goes down to give him opportunity. We wont wish injury on anyone...
Third the WRs we brought in as trade/FAs couldnt play(Galloway(FA)Lewis(trade)). He has to outperform Warren and Richard minimally to make the 53.

It is really tough to make these projections; we will really not know until training camp and preseason.

Who would have thought that Myron Pryor would have been so good and Ron Brace so disapointing? Who would have thought that Edelman would make the team nevermind be so effective?
