It wasn't so long ago when the Jaguars were defined by big uglies Marcus Stroud and John Henderson. Stroud is now gone, and Henderson may not be far behind.

Vito Stellino of the Florida Times-Union writes that the Jaguars intend to deal "Big John" in an effort to move back into the second round and take Penn State linebacker Sean Lee.
Contract info to come once I finish watching this Clausen-Gruden thing.

I would make this deal for the right price.
Henderson is a 6"7 monster who would fit in nicely as a 3-4 DE

DURABLE: missed 3 games since 2002
John Henderson

I'd look into acquiring Haynesworth or even Osi before Henderson.

I wonder why more teams aren't interested in Haynesworth, if he is indeed available. I realize he doesn't want to play in a 4-3, but why wouldn't the Rams want the guy?

I wouldn't think Henderson worth a 2nd, given his age (31) and salary. He has salaries of $5M in 2010 and $5.25M in 2011.

Any basis for projecting how he'd do learning a new system?

By the way, the article suggests that a 2nd round pick is involved in the trade price.

I don't think he's worth a 2nd rounder - but as to how he'd do in our system, him and Marcus Stroud were both known for shutting down the run in Jacksonville, and I think he was pretty good at providing interior pressure. Not sure how he'd do in a 2-gap system, I don't know if he's ever done it before. I think if this trade somehow managed to get done, it would signal a **** towards for 4-fronts for the pats

Adding Henderson would make the Pats much better much quicker than any draft pick could.

I agree that a 2 would be too high, but if I were in charge I'm sure something could be worked out maybe if Jacksonville threw in a 4 this year or a 3 next.

I would honestly do this trade. Henderson is 31 years old and only got 36 tackles last year but if you watch some Jags games from 2009, you'll see that he was often a victim of the double team. He still had 3 sacks and, at 6'7" 335 lbs, he will be hard for any QB to see around or over should he managed to get push into the backfield, which he should since he's playing on a significantly better D-Line than he did in Jacksonville. At the very least he's a stopgap and we can draft a long term DE next year then keep Henderson in the line-up for 2010 as well until Belichick feels like he's ready.

3/21/2006: Signed a six-year, $34 million contract extension through 2011.

Beautiful. I'd imagine the Jaguars already paid most of that contract. I don't see any reason why BB doesn't make this trade (unless there are injury concerns). I'd love to have Henderson on one side, Warren on the other, and Wilfork anchoring the middle. Throw Mayo into the mix and hope McKenzie comes on and our defense would be instantaneously harder to run on.

Trade for Henderson and Haynesworth and then draft Cody to team with Wilfork. That would be one way to stop the run.

We don't need a 4-3 tackle. That would still leave us with a hole at DE.

If he can't play 3-4 DE he's not worth the resources.

I'd be thrilled if a trade happens, as I'd have an "In BB we trust" view of the evaluation, Burgess and Starks notwithstanding.
