OT: Jets going after Jason Taylor HARD

Interesting.....

But I think the chances are extremely slim of Jason Taylor joining the ONE team he truly hates as well as their fans is the Jets.

I think Belichick hiring back Mangini as Defensive Corodinator has a better shot than Taylor joining the Jets UNLESS thats the only team who shows any interest,I think the Pats will not pursue him again despite the need,it was a slap in Belichick's face when he went back to Miami last season.

If Rex Ryan put on the charm and the Jets decide to pay him 5M then anything is possible, but I can't see it happening.

As much as I would like to have Taylor here, I gave up on him being a Patriot after he choose Miami last season.

I think Taylor COULD help sell PSL's. What Reiss takes away from the article is that the Pats ARE pursuing Taylor again. I think that would be ok, as long as no-one ever assumes he solves our problems. We need another Vrabel pretty badly.

I'd love to see Taylor in a Patriot uniform next year. Although he isnt what he used to be, he can still put up decent numbers in an area the Pats need work in, the pass rush. More importantly he would be able to provide leadership in the locker room and for a defense that needs that veteran guy to take charge

He may be a locker room guy because he has that knack, but as far as productivity goes on the field,I really don't see a big step up from Burgess signing last season,I actually seeing him have a similar impact with about 5 sacks.

I rather see him stay in Miami than go to the jets... But come on, Jason play up in New England , his leadership would be vital .....As well as a pass rush...

i don't think we need him if we can get sergio kindle or brandon graham. Then I would much rather us focus on getting someone who can help Wilfork up front in stopping the run.

Graham would be a big mistake IMO...Kindle is a MUCH better choice

Kindle?? NO WAY.. Kindle is a 4-3 DE. Not a 3-4 OLB.. Not to mention that he is over-rated because of the defensive talent that was around him.

Burgess is 6'2". Taylor is a legit 6'6". From the perspective of a 6'3" QB, there is a major difference in comfort level between having Burgess 10 feet in front of you than having Taylor there. The Pats seem to value the ability to disrupt a QB (tips, bad decisions, forced checkdowns) more than just the ability to put him on the turf. Height is also an asset when he drops into zone coverage.

The Jets situation is confusing to me. They can't offer Taylor much cash and he would be redundant with Bryan Thomas (who would also look sweet on the Pats).

We been sayin that for a while. The question now becomes if he is a player who can still do at least that, why isn't Miami persuing him...and the chatter up until now was they weren't. Tuna has either decided he's effectively done or he's layin in the weeds waiting for Jason to test his market again so someone else can do the wooing Jason seems to crave and he can just get him inked before camp opens when he decides he really doesn't want to play outside of Florida.

FWIW the Jets are limited in what they can sign him for as a final 4 team to the deal their recently departed PK just inked in Arizona. 2 years, $3.75M with a $500K roster bonus and a $1M salary this season and another $1.75M in unguaranteed 2011 salary and workout bonus money.

Jason is starting to remind me of Ty Law. The guy Bill always left the door open for in the off chance he finally decided winning truly mattered more than being wooed or paid a dollar more...

I have to say that I watched as many Miami games as Pats games last season and I truly have NO CLUE why teams are so interested in Jason Taylor. Not a clue whatsoever. He did still get sacks last season but most of them were garbage time sacks which had very little impact on a game. The only game I can remember where he was truly a force from the onset was the Saints game... and that's it. Talk to most Dolphin fans and they'll probably tell you that they would much prefer to see Wake in the line-up than Taylor, in spite of his run stopping woes. I don't think he'll go to the Jets, but they can have him if he wants to go there. He isn't a shadow of what he used to be.

Who cares at this point about Jason Taylor.

He isn't going anywhere and I don't think he has much left.

I agree maybe not too the same extreme. There's no need to have a bidding war for this guy. Let the Jets have him. It really only makes sense for him to go back to the Dolphins where he can produce. He's tried another team before and at his age they'll have a tough time teaching an old dog new tricks

This is correct.

You're right about the Jets and the situation that they are in and I agree with your comparison to Ty Law. Taylor is definitely one of BB's most respected players in the league, both have nothing but positive things to say about each other. Taylor for the majority of his career has chosen money/family over winning. He only has a few playing years left and maybe he will switch his motivations for winning instead of money.

It's a good point as to why haven't the Dolphins offered him a contract this off season. If they thought he could still contribute then why haven't they put an offer on the table? Personally, I think Taylor can still be an impact player in the league. My theory as to why the Dolphins haven't put an offer to Taylor is the Dolphins are at a point where they are getting younger on defense and as a team in general and are ready to part ways with the veteran Taylor.

I still believe that Taylor can be a factor, he definitely isnt the player that he was, but he can still get after the QB and make his presence felt. It'd be nice to see if Taylor would take a cheap one year contract and play in NE and be a mentor for an OLB that the Pats hopefully draft this year and also contribute to the team.

Good, let the jets have him.

Are you trying to say that joining the Patriots would give Jason a much better chance of winning than joining the Jets who may or may not be turning the corner?

I would think its extremely close as to which team will be more on the winning side this season,I don't really see any major moves here except for the draft picks and maybe a low profiled FA...of course in here I would not expect a fair opinion.

Kindle has played with his hand off the ground on occasion, but it's unlikely any rookie will be an immediate impact at 3-4 OLB. It takes time to transition.
