NY Post: Pats could make run at Leon Washington

Good ball player, but I would not give up a second round choice for him.

Pretty much. Even before the injury, I wouldn't have figured he was worth a second; now, I would maybe give a fourth.

If they trade for Washington, they really have their priorities messed up.

Why? Washington could be a potential long-term replacement for Faulk and would be another weapon in both the passing game and running game. If he can be had for cheap, I'd love to have him.

But as an RFA with the 2nd round tender, he won't come cheap. He'll come for at least a 2nd round pick, which IMO is too much to give up for him coming off an injury.

Its not only giving a second round pick away for Washington but more importantly its WHO we are giving it to.

You don't want to take a chance on a player coming off a severe injury and the Jets getting even stronger with a good choice in the second round courtesy of the Pats

Tenenbaum has done extremely well in the draft the past year or two and don't think its worth it.

Makes no sense unless to screw with Fatso.

Washington will be 29 this season. He wanted a contract in the range of 5 Mil per season. Kevin Faulk is back for 1 more season. This is supposed to be the best draft in ages. Why give up picks and why give them to your mosted hated rival?

NE could draft Faulks replacement and get a younger player 4 years on the cheap.

Just an FYI He's only 27 right now.. And will be 28 when the season starts.. Faulk will be 34 when the season starts.. Six year difference.. BIG difference..

The combination of the injury and the fact a 2nd round pick is high in this deep draft (per the experts) makes me nervous

Going to ask this so b kind with the response..

Why not wait until after the draft and make an offer to him with a poison pill?? That way we don't have a pick this year??

Is there a cut off date?

Leon Washington is coming off a SERIOUS, season ending injury to his leg. There's no way he's worth a second round pick now. If you're going to go fishing with a 2nd round pick for a RB I'd much prefer a rookie draftee or even the Saints' Pierre Thomas over Leon "I broke my leg and might never be the same" Washington. I think this rumor is only a media created concotion. At least I hope it is.

The impact of the injury was so intense that the broken bone could be seen popping out of the skin and the nature of the fracture was compound one. Such severe injury to the fibula (the smaller among the two bones in between knee and ankle) for a running back means the greatest loss to his essential ability of speedy sprint all around the ground.

I would rather look for a RB in the draft....We could use more speed and definately youth over our senior citizens and I think thats exactly what Belichick will do,Possibly as early as the 1st round and could spell bye bye for Maroney if a rookie is strong in camp

Thanks Sully

Yeah, I know Faulk is at the end of the road. But why bring him back (assuming he resigns) and get Washington? Wouldnt Faulk sit and watch Washington play?

I guess I'm in the position of not assuming anything.. In my heart I want Faulk back.. But thinking logically the Pats might be better off today and in the future with Washington.. Of course thats with the assumption he's 100% back to where he was..

Maybe my question wasn't that crazy.. WHy do the Pats have to offer a 2nd round this year and not next year? Is there a cut off date for offering Restricted Free Agents?

Signing Washington would bolster our offense and weaken our opponent.. They would be basically left with an untested backfield.. A backfield they rely heavily on..

With all the underclassmen coming out, this draft will be full of first round talent all through the 2nd round....not only will the Pats get 1st round talent with their 2nd round picks, they will be paying 1st round talent, 2nd round money......soooo, why give up that kind of pick for someone who will demand much more money, at an advanced age (for NFL running backs), coming off an injury? This draft is an unusual draft because of what is happening with the CBA. Giving up incredibly valuable 2nd round picks THIS year is insane.

Jahvid Best compares to Leon with more overall talent. He would impact right away, as there is a faster learning curve for RB.

If they could get rid of Adalius Thomas for Washington I'd be all for it, though I'd prefer to get draft picks for Thomas.
That would only happen in a game called Madden 10.

That's the question. If they give up one of their 2nd's, their priorities are messed up. They need to use these picks on defense or O-Line. It's too much of a risk for a player that just broke his leg. If they want another RB, just draft him.

I don't think Best will last until the second round. Trindon Holliday might be available in the later rounds. He's lightning quick and would cause match up problems for the defense. The huge question would be his blocking ability. But his playmaking ability has no question, IMO. As a Gator fan I've seen too many instances of this guy burning our defense.

because of the extremely high amount of busts in the draft. trading for a player who has a proven NFL track record ensures you know what you are getting

Except that Leon TORE UP HIS KNEE. You DON'T KNOW what you're getting!

Leon didn't tear up his knee. Didn't hurt his knee at all. Had a compound fracture of his lower leg (I believe tibia, but may have been both tibia and fibula)
