Re: Lombardi: Pats have re-signed Bodden [Agent: "Rumors are premature at best"]

So It's just because he's not here to sign it? Only thing that worries me is that tweet from his agent. Why was he being such a weasel? I want this signed, sealed and delivered.

If an agent isn't being a weasel, he isn't doing his job.

Either he screwed up by letting the story leak before he wanted it to, and is doing damage control, or he figured that leaking Bodden's intent to re-sign with the Pats tonight, and then making clear that nothing's official yet, he could shake loose a last minute offer by a team that had been on the fence.

The more options he gets his client, the better he's done his job.

About what?

I thought he was going to be a Texan because he'd been in Houston for too long. I think this is something that fell through at the very last minute.

Re: Lombardi: Pats have re-signed Bodden [Agent: "Rumors are premature at best"]

McKenzie next to Mayo inside. Guyton moves back outside. Wright at DE.

I can see that being opening day. So for another interesting post here we go.

Age

Vince Wilfork: 28
Ty Warren: 29
Mike Wright: 28
Tully Banta-Cain: 29
Jerod Mayo: 24
Tyrone Mckenzie: 24
Gary Guyton: 24
Leigh Bodden: 28
Darius Butler: 23
Brandon Meriweather: 26
James Sanders: 26

Average Age: 26.3

Bravo to BB. Look at the age transformation from 2007 to 2010. No more gasing out in 4th quarter.

The media will still say that the Patriots' defense is old

Re: Lombardi: Pats have re-signed Bodden [Agent: "Rumors are premature at best"]

We agree on Wright and Brace but not Guyton. I agree his play outside was lacking but the sample was too small to judge fairly IMHO. He was the fastest LB in the entire draft and I would like to see that speed off of the edge one more time before moving him back inside.

4-3 OLB is different from a 3-4 LB....doh

Re: Lombardi: Pats have re-signed Bodden [Agent: "Rumors are premature at best"]

As much as I like the re-signings of the few players I thought we had to re-sign, I still feel that we really haven't done much to improve ourselves. We're re-signing players that were part of a slightly better-than-average team. I guess all hope for improvement may have to point to the draft, unless we make some kind of blockbuster trade before then. None of the remaining free agents are all that great, I think.

Cut Wilfork/Warren/Bodden/TBC.

They're too old and slowing down our team, its an uncapped year we can afford the cap room.

I hope not. I've seen tons of negotiations and news articles over the years. To me, especially with the client out of town recently, agreement in principle means details only to be worked out.

It can fall apart, but it's usually guarantees, clauses etc. that both sides assume will be worked out, while the dough and years are agreed upon. Weasels though they may be, agents need to maintain some reputation for fair dealing or they will have a hard time with teams.

I've seen more that one hot shot agent that screwed everybody end up with some hot draft prospects that no one wants to talk to for some reason. What goes around comes around. Certainly does him no good if this "deal" somehow falls apart and it looks like he messed up, hence the panicky tweet.

haha, I find it amazing as of right now not one starter is above the age of 30.

I'm so glad Seau isn't back. Man was a great player in his prime, but bad luck for us.

Objectively, where would you rank our CB duo against the rest of the division?

You've got the Jets with Revis and Cro, Miami with Smith and Davis, and Buffalo with McGee and McKelvin. Assuming this Bodden deal is sealed up tomorrow, we'd have Bodden and Butler. How would you rank them from 1 to 4?

1. Revis and Cro ( I think Cro will do bad, but Revis is too good)
2. Bodden and Butler (Solid core, Butler with alot of upside).
3. Smith and Davis (Could become fantastic, you can't rate two 2nd year players high though).
4. McGee and McKelvin (Not good, luckily they drafted Byrd at safety).

I'd have us behind the Jets. Smith and Davis were statistically the 2 worst CBs in the division and didn't show any improvement durign the year, although they have a lot of upside and I believe they'll improve. McGee is constantly injured and Mckelvin is still an unknown who's coming back from a season-ending knee injury.

Yeah I have the Jets first and Buffalo last, but I think it's very close between NE and Miami for #2. At the moment, you have to project the improvement of two CB's on Miami as opposed to only having to project one on NE, so that might steer me towards NE. I would not be shocked at all though if Miami's ended up being better. I love that duo that Parcells has assembled.

Maybe check his site. If the front picture changes we'll have our answer.
