I had heard that Taylor was a freak of nature, his times confirmed it for how big he is. I'd dump Merriweather in a second for this guy...

Thats a bit overboard...unless it was sarcasm which I hope it is.:bricks:

I wouldnt mind him if he could bulk up a bit and make the conversion to LB, but right now I dont think he's worth the risk at 22.

If the thought or plan was to move to OLB or a hybrid safety that plays at the line, what would you think? Maybe not at 22 I know, but hypothetically if he were to fall out of the 1st round?

No.

........

A 230 pound guy with no pass-rush moves, the inability to tackle, and very poor coverage skills for his size and speed does not really have any good position on defense...

Meriweather had 5 picks last season. Put Mays in the same position on those 5 plays and he gets 1 pick and 4 big hits. Not exactly who I'd want in my defense. He could be a damn good special teamer, though

mays is a SS and Merriweather, is a FS that made the pro bowl last year. wey would u dump one of the best player on defense for a rookie.

i would go as far to say draft him to play with Merriweather, but we need. pass rush and a DE and chung maybe a realy good player ill give him some time.

Let's just trade James Sanders and our 22nd pick to the Falcons for their 19th. We would definently have the best young safety squad in the league with Merriweather, Chung, McGowan, and Mays.

Just imagine for run and pass situations, FS: Meriweather/McGowan and SS: Mays/Chung. We would definently bring back the fear if we picked up Mays. IMO, Sanders gets paid more by leadership with his 3 year $9 million contract. But i say lets just take our chances with Mays i mean seriously, just imagine if BB sent this guy on a safety blitz with his speed. He basically would be the pass rush with that play!!!

You're seriously advocating trading a safety and moving up to draft... another safety with our first round pick?

Good lord, some of the things you read on this forum. I wouldn't touch Mays with a ten foot pole.

Both Chung and Meriweather mostly played free safety or deep or whatever. McGowan played mostly Strong safety.

With the speed Mays has shouldn't his range be a stregnth? He's faster than anyone and he can jump higher than most. Should't he be a ballhawk?

With the speed Gholston has shouldnt his speed rush be a strength? He's faster than anyone and he can bench more than most. Shouldnt he be a Sackmaster?
See what I did there?

SHOULD be a ballhawk. However, his hips are below average, which means that it takes him longer than average just to get moving in the right direction, which is never a good thing. He seems to lack any instincts at all, which also stops him from getting to where the ball is. And he is horrific at making plays on the ball. He goes for the big hit too much, rather than going up and getting the ball.

Notice 1:14 and 2:35 in that video and you'll see what I mean. Two plays where I think he could've had a batted pass or even a pick, but instead laid the receiver out.

Mays can run fast and he's jacked up physically, but he doesn't seem to have great football instincts. I've watched enough USC games and haven't been impressed with Mays the way I've been with Berry or the kid from Texas (Thomas). Mays always seems to get there a second too late.
