Ben Tate-RB Auburn

Any reason nobody seems to bring him up? What little I saw of him he looked great to me. I just don't see the sense in jumping on spiller in the 1st with the "big ugly" woes we seem to have. Taking a flier on this guy in the 4th seems like a no brainer to me, but what do I know. 5'10" 220# Apparently runs in the 4.4-4.5 range. I only caught his bowl game this year but I fell in love with him immediately. Was running HARD. No *****-footing around in the hole. Wasn't able to catch the senior bowl due to a lack of NFLN, but I don't think he got many carries, as the same went for all the backs on his team. What say all you?

You should read the senior bowl thread as several people posted remarks about Tate "making plays" and "running downhill".

Tate is faster than both Joique Bell and LeGarrette Blount, and, in fact, Tate is only 0.12 secs slower than Spiller in the 40. But he is a lighter player (220 vs Bell's 225 and Blount's 245). Tate has shown to have very good field vision, and as you say, he is a north-south runner. At Auburn, he had the speed to run sweeps effectively and he also was effective between the tackles. He was a huge contributor for Auburn in the near-upset against Alabama in the last regular season game. He has played in big games. He rarely fumbles. He is also a powerful blocker, a role he played often. Tate has good hands catching flares and screens effectively. He is a team first guy.

In the 4th round, he would be a steal for the Pats.

I really like Ben Tate.... He has great vision at the line of scrimmage. He is not going to take it to the house, but he is the kind of back who can turn a 2 yard loss into a 2yd gain. Great downhill runner. No tap dancing!!!!

In our offence there quiet a bit of option offence so a RB blitz pickup is a key quality.

Not sure where you get your weights from but they are incorrect except for Blount's 245. Tate weighed in at 214 and Bell at 223. Spiller, meanwhile was only 195..

That being said, I liked what I saw out of Tate in the Senior Bowl.

I've mentioned him more than once... Depending on whether or not there's a run on running backs, I say he goes anywhere from third to fourth round.

If New England decides to select a running back in the fourth round, I might select Joique Bell over Tate if both are still available.

I like him, big, fast, downhill, cited him in reviewing the Senior Bowl and saw him in season.

Ben Tate is the type of mid round sleeper RB who usually has a productive NFL career. I would love it if we could draft this kid 4th rd. He has good vision/balance and hes a good inside runner. I think he is a mid round pick right now is because of his lack of elusiveness and burst but the think I like about him is how he finishes his runs. He runs through people and is always falling forward. He would be a good change of pace back with Maroney-Tate-Faulk being our stable next year. Keep one of Morris-Taylor.
