Bob Cryin: Manning is the better QB (from 1/31/2010)

Re: Bob Cryin: Manning is the better QB

Folks, one of the common things in this thread is the contention that Brady has more years than Manning left.

But, Manning rarely gets hit, AND Manning was born one year before Brady, just one year, AND he comes from a family that totally revolves around football.

unfortunately for his poor, married for nine years and no children yet wife. Guess he meant the "for worse" part of his wedding vows.

Just out of curiosity, how many of you here on the forum took Manning over Brady in their fantasy league?

Also, if you team is down by more than 3 TD's , who would you rather have as a QB to win the game?

What does it matter who you would select in a fantasy league? Are you going to suggest that the superficial stats used for fantasy points are controlled only by the QB and not assisted/hurt by their supporting cast?

Also, if you team is down by more than 3 TD's , who would you rather have as a QB to win the game?

All else being equal? Tom Brady

In the playoffs? Brady for sure.

Manning, no doubt. Watching him play the Jets down 11 in the AFCCG, I thought to myself "this is right where Manning wants them". With the Pats up 17 against them this year I was still ****ting my pants, and lo and behold...

Look, no one loves TFB more than I do, but think about some of the krazy komebacks Manning has had the past few years. The guy is a friggin' machine these days. When was the last time Brady had one like that? The comeback against the Bills this year was great, but I can't remember any others.

fantasy football ? really ? fantasy football. what a joke. if i had known this thread was going to devolve into a fantasy football league discussion i wouldn't have bothered reading the last 30 some odd pages.

this year ? manning. every other year and in the playoffs, brady. this is the only year where i would put manning in brady's class. of couse, if you listen to espn, there is no discussion. they are truly morons. they must prefer fantasy to reality like the previous poster.

In the past few years Brady went 18-1, missed an entire season, and played coming back from an ACL with guys who never dreamed of being WR's at the pro level...and for good measure a leaderless defense in transition.

This is frontrunner mentality at it's best. What have you done for or to me lately...What makes it even more pathetic is the assessments aren't even based on what Manning did in the last couple of seasons... Just this season. In 2007 and 2008 he was one and done again once the playoffs started. And last season dealing with his own knee issues, half of his comebacks were more like givebacks...

True, but it was the exact opposite in 2007 when everyone "knew" that Brady was better. People are fickle and have short memories. Watch, next year a guy like Cutler or Trent Edwards will be the undisputed best.

Don't read more into it than what's there. The question was specific to comebacks, not playoff performance. When I wrote "a few years" I was really thinking back 5 years or more. Maybe it's my own crazy "frontrunner mentality", but it has been my impression that Manning has been better than Brady at putting points on the board very quickly when way behind. The traditional (I should say "classic") Pats victory as I think of it has been building a good lead and then holding on for dear life. But how often do you see them come back from a 3 score deficit, Mo?

Really?

In 2007, that perfect season had some comeback victories.

Brady lead them on 4th quarter comebacks in 4 out of the last 8 games. Including in a game against the Colts.

The Patriots were losing 20 to 10 against the Colts at Indy with less than 10 minutes to play. Brady lead them on two TD drives, while Peyton Manning's drives ended in a Rosey Colvin sack and fumble and a stalled drive.

Re: Bob Cryin: Manning is the better QB

I am so sick of this bandwagoning BS. The bottom line is this guy at the Globe is, like all other media persons are sell-outs. Their opinions of players change every week depending how they play and should be taken with a grain of salt. If Brady has a good season next year ( or even a great game) those meat heads in the media will be saying that he is the best QB. I don't even understand why people even read such garbage. When Denver was 3-0, they were already talking about them being a great SB contender.. and look how that turned out. Great players aren't determined in one season ( or even one game as the mediots often portray). The fact of the matter is, neither Tom nor Duckface have retired yet and so all judgements about them as the greatest is pure bs.

This year Manning lead a bunch of improbable comebacks and was truly impressive.

Here are Brady's stats on comebacks and game winning drives:

Tom Brady's Career 4th quarter comebacks and game-winning drives | Pro-Football-Reference.com

I really do think Brady made a name for himself on game winning drives in the Super Bowls.

Peyton Manning has 33 game winning drives and Brady has 29 since the 2001 season.

But prior to this year, Brady had more. Manning had 7 this year and Brady only had 1, Buffalo.

Before 2009, Brady had 28 and Manning had 26.

This does not take into account playoffs where I'm almost certain Brady has had more. Oakland, Pittsburgh, Carolina. Peyton has New England. Any others?

The question was if the team was down by 3 TDs.

Guys, I'm a lover, not a hater. I would not trade TFB for JHC. But for this specific question, I think Manning has proven himself better at huge comebacks.

Yeah, that comeback against the Colts was pretty effing sweet! I would like to watch that fourth quarter again right now.

It's hard to say since huge comebacks require huge deficits.

The Patriots were blown out of the playoffs this year. So that was one missed opportunity for a comeback. How often have they been down 3 scores?

In 2008, the Colts were down 3 scores at least 3 times and lost (in fact, didn't get closer than 2 scores). The year before, Jax beat them 44-17.

So who will be the better golfer ... Manning vs Brady

It's a perception issue and I've stated my perception. Doesn't mean it's right. I'm sure it has something to do with watching Manning lead two awful comebacks against the Pats.

Best post of the thread. Welcome, we need more rational thinkers here nowadays to combat all the increasingly wishy washy frontrunner fans and mediots.
